Bush Urges Congress to Fund Wars Before Holiday



All Things Considered, November 29, 2007 · President Bush has raised the ante with Congress over funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Speaking at the Pentagon on Thursday, the president called on lawmakers to approve nearly $200 billion for the Pentagon before leaving for the Christmas holidays.

Democratic leaders say they will approve one-fourth of that amount — if the administration agrees to a timetable to withdraw troops from Iraq.

That's always the government's solution to any problem, isn't it? Just throw more money at it, and it will go away.
