Tufts U attacks free speech

FIRE, the legal foundation that fights (and almost always wins) free speech battles against libofascist university speech codes, has spotlighted Tufts University this month:

The Primary Source (TPS), a conservative student newspaper, violated the school's harassment policy by publishing two satirical articles mocking affirmative action and Islamic fundamentalism.

That a new university can be "spotlighted" every month shows not only the pervasiveness of this aspect of liberal fascism, but also the constant uphill battle fought by alternative conservative university student newspapers. (On US campuses, the conservative paper is ALWAYS the "alternative" one.)

Tufts is a private university and so isn't obliged to respect the First Amendment the way a government-funded institute would.

It is, however, obliged to honor its contractual obligations, which apparently include a promise to protect the free exchange of ideas. An enterprising student would do well to deliberately run afoul of their speech codes and then sue them for breach of contract when is inevitably punished for it.

My point was only to elucidate the nature of modern US universities, and plenty of state universities act the same way. In some future conservative-controlled congress, universities which accept federal money (and I'm sure that includes Tufts) would receive it on condition that basic notions of reason prevail on their campuses, eg that free speech is not suppressed.
