You are given the power to see the solution of one of history's "unsolved mysteries."
What secret would you pick to uncover?
The "hard problems" of consciousness. I suspect I could extrapolate the results to formulate a model of mind and being that could possibly help mediate the way which we percieve our sense of being and thus have implications on moral philosophy. Given that this is one of my major life goals anyway.

I would have to pick the Bermuda Triangle. I have always been interested in this since I was in highschool and had to do a report on it.

Well, I'm an anthropology major, so I'd like to "solve" the mysteries behind any of the Mesoamerican sites and temples (Aztec, Maya, Zapotec, etc). There is no one temple or city...there are SO many, and many of the glyphs have yet to be deciphered.

I think I would like to actually see how they built things like Stonehenge or the Pyramids in Egypt. There's been so much speculation into who and how they were built, I'd like to be able to see for myself.

1948 was the year, I think.
I would kinda like to know the truth around the crop circles that have popped up from time to time. A number of them have been exposed as frauds, but I wonder about the rest of them...

I never even thought about the crop circles. I would like to know that one too. We have a running argument me and my husband on what caused these.

Another thing I'm interested in finding out is how/why the Nazca Lines were made. I'm not sure I agree with the extraterrestrial theory, but barring anything else being presented, I guess it's as good a theory as anything else. :shrug:

Plumley: the answer to your first 5 questions can be summed up in a combination of the concepts of retrospective awareness (and thus hindsight) and attentional bias. Those are all things that we seem to notice explicitly because our mind has intentionally focused on it in some way or another- and thus we seem to remember them most of all regardless of the proportion of events that they actually occupy.
About the dude who left his sneaker in the middle of the road...well that one beats me! I also wonder about the sneakers hanging from the power-lines. It's an oldie but a goodie.

What? This is my kinda fun. And what's more I thought it was a useful thing to know.
That said, I really would love to know where the hell the other sock goes, looking through my sock drawer. And FNAR, we seem also to be missing several dinner plates...
I blame the gremlins.
Now to ruin it for you too- IMO the first question doesn't have an answer if you're asking about human telos. The creation causation question, on the other hand, is the work of the devil!

Some of these mysteries have been solved.
Where did the sock go? Actually, most socks are lost in the washing machine, if you were to take out the barrel, you find many a missing sock. They tend to go up to the top of the machine and slip over and behind the barrel. They are also under or behind your washer and dryer.
Crop circles-solved by the first people who made them showing us how. I find it unlikely that alien craft cause crop cirles that look so similar to the fake ones created.
Your internet stays up during a hurricane because you are the only on the internet during a hurricane.
The Bermuda Triangle--according to Australian physicists,
"It's long been known that there are pockets of methane gas, known as methane gas hydrates, beneath the ocean floor that could erupt if they're disturbed or if their internal pressure becomes too large," Professor Monaghan said.
The massive gas bubbles had the potential to cause aircraft to crash, Mr May said yesterday. "In the Bermuda Triangle, methane gas is known to be present and the release of that gas could cause not only boats to sink, as shown in our study, but also aeroplanes to crash," he said. I also remember a few years ago reading something which took figures from other similar bodies of water and compared tham to the Bermuda Triangle and while there have been many more incidents in the Triangle, once they figured in how much traffic Bermuda recieves compared to the other bodies, it really wasn't too different. It is just that it has an awful lot of traffic for such a small body of water.
Now, did you RAELLY want to know the answers or does that ruin part of the fun?
I would want solved the mystery of why I, who normally make such good decisions, married all three bozos.
