We're trying to come up with a new logo and we're out of ideas.

Here is something I conceptualized a while ago (not sure if anyone else is using this though).... I just quickly put it on screen with photoshop

I like the first one you posted. The one with the scales would drive me crazy staring at it wondering why the plates on the scale don't hang right, but I'm kinda OCD like that.
