80 million hours needed to tackle Obamacare tax rules
September 18, 2012 | 10:02 am
Romney vows to stay course as worried GOP begs for tougher campaign

A week after small businesses warned that Obamacare taxes will eat up to half of their profits, a new government report reveals that simply complying with the new tax rules in the health care act will cost American families and businesses nearly 80 million hours--essentially a whole new tax.Based on Internal Revenue Service figures, the House Committee onWays and Means has compiled an estimate of the total amount of hours it will take to comply with the tax rules. The bottom line: 79,229,503 hours, most of which will fall on small businesses.
For fun, the committee gave a comparative example.
"So, what can be done in 79,229,503 hours? The Empire State building, which took 7 million man-hours to build, could be constructed 11 times. The Curiosity Lander could travel from Earth to Mars 13,048 times. Halley's comet, seen from Earth once every 76 years, could be spotted 119 times."
The committee said that Obamacare has resulted in thousands of pages in IRS and Treasury rules including 17 regulations, 5 revenue procedures, 2 revenue rulings, and 14 Treasury decisions.
"Given the enormous impact the regulations will have on job creators, it is no wonder that a recent survey found that over 70 percent of small businesses cite the health care law as a major obstacle to job creation," said the panel headed by Rep. David Camp.

Where are all the libs who think Obamacare is wonderful? This disastrous law is going to f**k all of us...of course the elites won't be impacted.

And libs can't figure out why the economy continues to struggle.

As many predicted and were condemned for it, death panels are coming. They will call it something else. The liberal rag NY Slimes thinks so....now. Libs and Dems have been duped again.

Beyond Obamacare

WE need death panels. Well, maybe not death panels, exactly, but unless we start allocating health care resources more prudently — rationing, by its proper name — the exploding cost of Medicare will swamp the federal budget.

well lefties do love regulation. of course they are also surprised when the cost of compliance is passed onto them and wail that zillionaire fat cats are greedy. big issue seeing cause and effect.

Golly. 80 million hours!

In the United States in 2009 there were 26.8 million small businesses and about 56 million employees of small businesses.

At 80 million hours that comes to about 1.5 hours per person, or 3 hours per small business. That is huge. It's probably worth a dozen coffee breaks for each and every one of those 80 million.

I stop reading at Death Panals..so as to not waste time...lucky me the post was blocked anyway

You mean your not interested in what an Obama apponted lefty has to say? He said we need "death pannels" (if you had read the article) just like Rham Emanuel's brother suggested in his version of the "whole life system". I just love these college elite "think tank" committee oriented gurus. Don't you? Peace be upon you......

I don't know many "libs" who think this law is wonderful, this law is the worst form of cronyism. And I agree, the law is disastrous, economically naive, and is going to f**k us all. It can't work, not even if they make the "slight adjustments" Obama has spoken of.

We hear a lot about Big Tobacco, Big Oil, Big Coal, Big Auto, Big Wall Street..no mention of Big Health. The Health insurance sector is and has been one of the strongest sectors of our economy for decades, and was projected to be as strong for at least the next 3 decades even before Obamacare was enacted.

The health insurance sector has been lobbying Congress for decades and look what happened. They have been told that they have to start giving more coverage, which may sound bad at first but the large companies can easily handle that, and the new requirements are going to effectively price start-ups and smaller insurers out of the market. And they got an individual mandate, seems to me all of that cash spent on and by health lobbyists was well spent. I haven't heard word one from the media about this blatant cronyism. (btw, that's called giving someone a pass)

It's amazing that you can have so many allegedly educated, intelligent "experts" working on this and they completely forget to address Supply.

Pockets response is typical of liberals. He is terribly uninformed and likes it that way.

He does not know that Steve Rattner, who wrote the NY Slimes op-ed pushing death panels, was BO's car czar. He currently works for Nanny Bloomberg's trust fund and has a long history of working on Wall Street. He is also regular on MSLSD.

Obamacare will ultimately lead to socialized medicine, because it will kill what little competition exists in HC and raise costs to point where people will demand socialized medicine.

Once again the consequences of liberalism are most horrendous, but liberals are too clueless to see it.

The 2700 pages of the health care bill has morphed into how many pages now? 10,000? This thing is going to be bigger than the IRS tax code when it's finished, if it ever gets finished. The purpose of the program is for the government to eventually take over and control a large chunk of our economy and all of the people. The liberals think this is progress, I think it's what Friedrich von Hayek warned about in "The Fatal Conceit", a book on socialism and economics.

From a reader; "The Fatal Conceit's title captures the essence of the socialist/progressive/liberal impulse, born of a feeling of moral and intellectual superiority, to bring order to the free market, and in so ordering, destroy the very thing (capitalism), that allows modern civilization".

I would have thought that given the rather dire events in your life regarding healthcare the idea of bureaucratic decisions based on cost would be of more interest to you.

He doesn't care about the lack of quality, increased costs, or the bureaucratic mess Obamacare will cause...he just wants it free. In his mind, government should provide for him....he believes the rich are evil and have too much. As such, government MUST take from them and give to him Consequences be damned.

IMO many liberals are like spoiled toddlers.

You had me at "Hayek".

the point was that just being free does not solve anythng if some bureaucrat 'just says no' to gettig any treatment. we've seen this happen taime and time again in stae managed healthcare.

I just wish someone would take an interest in doing something about health care COSTS.

I read where health care costs have increased $3000 per family per yr. You can't have a "one size fits all" plan and not expect it to go up. The health care plan also didn't include any tort reform either.
