I believe Alaska is also #1 in the rate of incest. Great job you're doing Sarah, any governor would be proud to have numbers like that. I mean, I realize AK is a red state, but c'mon now.

The state has long suffered the highest sexual assault rate in the nation, and the problem is worst in rural areas, according to a report released Tuesday.

The numbers are unacceptable, troopers said at a news conference Tuesday detailing the study.

"Each of us has a role in ending sexual violence in Alaska," said trooper Col. Audie Holloway. "We need to think into the future."

In nearly 1,000 cases studied over two years, the average age of victims was 16, while the average age of those accused was 29. In four out of five cases, the suspects were relatives, friends or acquaintances.

Overall, 89% of the victims were female. One out of three cases were reported more than a month after the abuse occurred, leaving evidence hard to collect.

I am not going to read all of the links so can you tell me if all of this stuff has happened in the last two years? you say that Alaska has the highest sexual assualt and HS dropout rates in the nation, what I want to know is was it low then Sarah Palin became Gov and now all the sudden its high?

Or is this a problem that was around before she was?

Don't waste your time on this drivel 'NO O'. All they're doing is proving their despiration by attempting to attach to Palin those things that have been happening for decades.

Take a look at the video, there are women's groups against Palin in Alaska because of her failure to act on these concerns.

One lady said that the guy she fired helped them

another lady said she was trying

the clip was more about the firing of that guy not the domestic violence problem, so the vidio was not helpful :(

Look at these stats. Now I realize Palin can't be faulted for it getting so bad but you would think it would have been a high priority of hers to do something about it.

Domestic Violence:

Alaska ranks among the top 5 states in the nation for per capita rates of domestic violence.

The rate of Alaskan women being killed by a partner is 1.5 times the national average.

Anchorage had a high rate of teen mothers experiencing domestic violence--32%.

Sexual Assault:

Since 1976, Alaska has ranked in the top five states in the nation for the highest rate of reported rape per capita.

Alaska has 6 times the national average of reported child sexual assault.

Fairbanks Health Center surveyed 419 clients over a 3-week period and found that 24% reported physical abuse in the past 6 months while 39% reported some form of sexual abuse.

Alaska's rape rate is 2.2 times the national average overall.

Prove that it isn't!

If you watch the video I posted from about the 1:50 mark on you will see women's group that are not happy with Palin. Much of it stems from her firing of Walt Monegan, whom she fired for not firing her ex brother in law (troopergate).

This is key because Monegan was important to the women of Alaska, he was actively addressing, and combating the crimes against women and children in AK, and had the support of many groups who are actively trying to reduce and address these crimes . Unfortunately Palin's ire over a family issue took precedence over the welfare of the women and children in her state.

I watched the video, it was mostly about the firing of that guy. Only a couple of ref. to the womens group and one of them had nice things to say about her the other just felt like she wasnt doing enough.

but you have to decide if she has been there long enough to do anything or if she is just a rookie who has not been in office long enough to have experience, because she cant be both

I agree. The male sexual deviancy in Alaska is the governor's fault. Now, the question is, should she castrate the men before or after the assault? I mean, I don't know how you feel about that pre-emptive thing....

2nd she was only there 2 years, how much impact could she have had in such a short time?

See I got to Deffened her and bash her a bit at the same time yay!

Amazing. And you think this has to do with .... WHAT? Detroit MI (my home state) has a murder rate over 5 times the national average. According to your logic, that must be a reflection on our Democrat Gov. Granholm, or the recently ousted Mayor Kilpatrick. Unfortunately, you denigrate a significantly important issue by your absurd applications.

And your messianic Sen. Obama claims that MCCAIN can't stay on issues and that he (Obama) will, in his words
hammer away at the issues that matter in Americans' lives...

Oh Geez...

Firstly, let me say this. The statistics about DV, SA, and other issues are a black eye on Alaska. We are not proud of it. It has been this way for a few decades. But it is not fair to suggest Palin is responsible for this.
