Im Sick of him,, The Reason why Harry Reid is holding things up is because hes getting even against the Tea Party for putting his fellow Democrats out of office. Why cant the Mafia take care of him just like they took care of JFK?

What is Reid holding up???

He isn't the one who "delayed" then "postponed" the vote in the House!

In fact, he wants to go ahead and take a vote in the Senate to STOP holding things up!

Your perception of things seemed kind of. . .out of touch with reality!

He said when the Bill is here it will be DOA! So whos holding things up mr left winger?

The Republicans who refuse to compromise by agreeing to some revenue increase to add to the cuts in spending agreed upon by the Democrats.

And also the Republicans who insist in having a second round at this craziness, instead of agreeing to "stabilize" the economy by putting off the next "debt ceiling" fight for 18 months!

Just playing politics, again!

If both the Republicans and Democrats agree on "cuts" but disagree on taxes, why not just pass the stuff they can agree to and move forward?

Because Democrats realize that there is NO WAY to lower the deficit by cutting spending ALONE!

And, obviously, they cannot trust the Republicans to come around to increasing revenues later!

A compromise is NOT about doing ONLY what one agrees on. . . but giving and taking a little.

Another form of compromise could be to proceed on the cuts in spending, and agree to a specific rise in revenues (even direct taxation, WITH the understanding that ANY new taxation would go SOLELY to pay off debt. . .not to go to spending.

Call on people's patriotism to raise enough tax to make a REAL dent in the debt!. . .After all, aren't the GOP and the tea party always proclaiming that they are the true patriots?

as long as each American pays the same percent I think its a good idea even though I think the government needs to quit spending our money on stupid programs and they should all take a pay cut! Id go for your plan if all Americans paid 5% or 10% from the lowest to the highest wage earners.

I'm with you panda! If we are all in this together, then we all should have to pay the same % of taxes to fix the problem. The "rich" would still pay far more than the "poor" in terms of actually dollars but the system would be fair.

It would also make the lower income people like myself take interest in politics and what congress is or is not doing, as long as the massive spending does not effect them, most of them do not care what happens, but if we all have skin in the game we will all care how the money is spent.

See!!! I sometimes agree with obama, we both think that everyone needs some skin in the game :)

Would you be in favor of going to a Flat Tax where every American paid the same % of their income in taxes? It would be a huge boost to tax revenue for the simple fact that the number of people who paid taxes would almost double.

But it would not be a patriotic thing to do, It gives me the creeps when people say its patriotic to pay government to control us and spend money in irresponsible ways

I'd love to hear your list of "irresponsible ways" the government use our tax money.

If you mean wars. . .I agree.

If you mean entitlement programs for the needy, the sick, the elderly, the disables. I don't agree.

If you mean trying to keep up infrastructure (we are now #15 in developed countries!). . . .I don't agree.

If you mean, corporate welfare, tax loopholes for the wealthy, and subsidies to big businesses. . .I agree.

Unfortunately, the GOP is perfectly happy with keeping the "irresponsible ways" that meet the need of their wealthiest supporters, but find it "irresponsible" to continue providing a safety net for those who can't survive in this crooked, FALSE free market economy.

I want the Wealthy pay their fair share! like 45% Look how the Weathy are taxed in France and in England? I want something like the wealthy eurpeans are paying. You realize Doctors are targeted in Europe because they make too much money. Now i like Doctors taxed higher in america as well CEOs Movie Stars and Pro Ballplayers.

I want to go back to a very limited Federal Government that does what it was meant to do. Protect the country and maintain highways exc.

I am all for states to be as communistic, socialistic, conservative or any other label you like. What ever the tax payers/voters in each state wants. I just do not want the federal government doing it.

There are a few social programs I think are important, foster care program is one and SSI for truly needy people, but I know so so so many people on SSI who do not need it and are milking the system. But again I think those should be state funded not federal

And where do you think the State funds will come from to cover SSI?
By the way, I disagree. I have worked closely with populations that absolutely need SSI. .and it's not easy to get!

Also, are you aware that SSI is a mere $400 to $700 per month? I would hardly say that ANYONE on SSI is CHOOSING to have it as their only form of income!

Do you also realize that many states (including Alaska, who receives one of the highest federal contribution per capita) who are RECEIVING more in Federal assistance than what they CONTRIBUTE are in fact, "Red States?" And that many of the BLUE States are actually contributing a LOT more than what they receive? How do you explain that?
