If you are a nutrition fanatic, like me, you will be happy to learn that Michael Obama has spent our tax dollars to come up with a new "Nutrition Plate". This is far superior than the old nutrition pyramid.. you remember, pictures of food in a triangle, with all the good things at the top and all the boring stuff at the bottom. According the New York Times:
"Few nutritionists will mourn the passing of the pyramid, ... which was derided by nutritionists as too confusing and deeply flawed. It did not distinguish clearly between healthy foods like whole grains and fish and less healthy choices like white bread and bacon. A [streamlined] version of the old pyramid appeared on cereal boxes, frozen dinners and other foods and it was so "streamlined" and stripped of information that many people have no idea what it represents."

But now everybody can understand what "Aunt Jemima Obama"

came up with the new, more understandable version.

I put a picture up on my kitchen wall, just to remind me how to eat. But just in case I get really hungry, I keep the Nutrition poster that I used when I was a kid. I like the advice along the bottom: In addition to the basic 7 ... Eat any other foods you want.

Life used to be so much easier. You didn't need to be a food specialist to know how a Taco fits into your daily program of eating smart. I guess the motto is, "If it it either a) tastes bad, or b) is hard to find at a normal store - then it is good for you"

I think McDonalds should have an Obama burger. A big whole wheat bun, small burger, few slices of banana, topped off with a nice slab of spinach. Oh, yea, cheese works too - or drink milk instead of Coke.

Hey, could be a winner!

its funny all the obama bashing...as if this was something new..changing the food pyramid....the have updated it quite a few times since I was a kid...and I am not that old.

They might as well forget about it, the more they fool with it the fatter the population gets. Not unlike the more money you throw at po folks the poorer they become or the po chilluns in school who get dumber and dumber the more money you throw at them.

Everything government touches gets worse.

Hey, I think I found the perfect match for Micheal's healthy food plate. Can you tell me if this is the same thing? I am kind of having a hard time figuring out Micheal's program.

"race baiting" - that is such a 20th century term; kind of like "politically correct". Neither term has a commonly understood meaning, so I don't know what you are talking about. If you have a solid point you want to make, then write it out clearly so everyone can understand what's on your mind.

Oh, yea, in case you missed it, my whole thread was a joke. The first lady coming up with a poster that is confusing at best. I don't know why first ladies feel compelled to take the bully pulpit on some social issue - just because their husband is elected president.

By race baiting, I mean that you are using the First Lady's race to make a series of race based attacks. You posted several juvenile, race based, visual jokes. You apparently think it's clever to compare the black First Lady to call her Aunt Jemima, a character that goes back to a time when black women's job choices were to be a cook, maid, or nanny.

The First Lady didn't come up with the poster. The USDA came up with the design. We have an obesity crisis that is seriously damaging the nation. It's a good cause. What's your complaint with it?

As you can tell from all of the pictures posted in this thread, you can see this is a subject that just naturally lends itself to political comedy. All forms of media like to joke about their national leaders. Here are a few more examples....

(hint: You may have to google "laura bush pickles" to understand this one.
Lampoons are everywhere where ironies crop up.

Linking Michelle Obama with Aunt Jamima when Michelle makes an issue of the the food American's eat is a natural linkage - and to make a joke of it says nothing negative about black people.

In fact, I find it insulting that you to call my post a series of race based attacks. I said absolutely nothing racist, nor do I consider presenting two women in a stereotypical illustration as anything but funny. Both women represent images of the status of black women at points in American history. It is an honor to refer to Michelle Obama as first lady - it shows that a majority of this country has left issues like "race-bating" in the dustbin of history.

It is an symbol of our progress as a nation with regard to race that we can joke about it, without anyone taking offense. There was a time when this kind of a joke would have been socially insulting. Our nation has left that era in the past.

Maybe it is you who sees racism hidden behind behind every caricature.

Other than that, I found the nutrition poster utterly useless. I would have hoped Michelle would have told the bureaucrats to develop something that would be of great assistance to the average American who wants to eat healthy. As it is, that picture says nothing about an,"Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun."
As far as I can see, it must be good to eat, because it contains everything shown on the poster that is promoted by Michelle Obama (assuming a sesame seed can be classified as a grain:rolleyes:).

How about this one... is this French-baiting, Short people-baiting, race-baiting, or French culture-baiting? I am sure the cartoon offends your every sensibilities.

Please explain why it's a "natural linkage".

Please explain why it's a "natural linkage".

Because humor exists. Just like connecting G.W. Bush to a caricature that rides a wild and crazy horse - because Bush paraded himself as a cowboy. Aunt Jamima represented a figure who was a good cook - by the virtue that she was a stereotypical black maid of the first half of the 20th century.

Now, a half century later, we have a black first lady projecting an image of an expert on food.

That is a natural linkage to create a joke.

If you didn't find it funny, then we have different tastes in humor.

But if you think any woman who holds the position of first lady of the United States can somehow be demeaned because of her skin color, then it is you who have a warped perception of how I, and most of America, looks at the formerly divisive issue of race. Those times are past - get over it.
