Surprise, surprise, this war wasn't about oil, murdering King George said so. Well, the other shoe has finally dropped and it proves the left was right all along:

BAGHDAD — Four Western oil companies are in the final stages of negotiations this month on contracts that will return them to Iraq, 36 years after losing their oil concession to nationalization as Saddam Hussein rose to power.

Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP — the original partners in the Iraq Petroleum Company — along with Chevron and a number of smaller oil companies, are in talks with Iraq’s Oil Ministry for no-bid contracts to service Iraq’s largest fields
, according to ministry officials, oil company officials and an American diplomat.

The deals, expected to be announced on June 30, will lay the foundation for the first commercial work for the major companies in Iraq since the American invasion, and open a new and potentially lucrative country for their operations.

The no-bid contracts are unusual for the industry, and the offers prevailed over others by more than 40 companies, including companies in Russia, China and India. The contracts, which would run for one to two years and are relatively small by industry standards, would nonetheless give the companies an advantage in bidding on future contracts in a country that many experts consider to be the best hope for a large-scale increase in oil production.

There was suspicion among many in the Arab world and among parts of the American public that the United States had gone to war in Iraq precisely to secure the oil wealth these contracts seek to extract. The Bush administration has said that the war was necessary to combat terrorism. It is not clear what role the United States played in awarding the contracts; there are still American advisers to Iraq’s Oil Ministry.

I wonder how the families of the 4102 dead will feel when they finally realize their sons and daughters died not for America, but for Exxon Mobil and their greedy friends.

Yeah... it's just another last ditch Bush administration attempt to help his people the oil lobby. Nothing new here.

The great thing about America though is no matter how much one group in power does to screw things up all it takes is an election and things can be straightened out fairly quickly.

I'll be so glad when Obama is President and it's the regular working person that somebody is finally looking out for.

But... if it was about oil... we would not be purchase it from them. We would own it. However we don't. So it's still illogical to conclude the war was about oil. We don't own their oil. We are not taking their oil. We are not doing anything that the liberals have claimed. Nothing here supports this screwball theory.

And given the support we gave Iraq, and the fact that we are already there, it's completely logical to assume that when the Iraqi Petrol company started looking for help, they would look to US based companies. This isn't shocking either.

Further, they are purchasing services from US based companies. None are getting the oil, just service contracts on the fields. We should be happy that our relationship with Iraq is creating jobs for Americans, and bringing money into our economy from over seas. Instead, like typical leftists, we have the 'lets attack the hand that feeds us' routine.

Finely, this was totally up to the Iraqi Petrol company to issue the contracts. You'll note that they didn't issue any contracts till this point. If 'the war was about oil' lameness was true, wouldn't the Bush administration have pressured them to make contracts years ago? Why yes, yes he would have. But no... no he didn't. That's because it had nothing to do with oil.

Typical left wing non-issue here. If Iraq had waited 20 years to make a contract with an America company, they'd be all hyped up about "the war 20 years ago was about oil see!!!" blaw blaw blaw blaw....

You're never gonna get into Jr. High, that way, Skippy.

The Middle East, the home of ancient civilizations and holy lands — and war. The crises of the Middle East seem to defy understanding or solution.

The history of the region does suggest answers, however. In the Middle East, politics and the incessant drumbeat of war, ultimately have everything to do with a substance more valuable than gold:
Oil.

The modern problems in the region result not from ancient hostilities but from the actions of modern governments on behalf of big business. To understand what’s going on in the Middle East today, we need to go back only a hundred years."

It's nothing to do with liberals. You people are paranoid with hate.

Iraq was invaded by USA because saddam was selling cheap oil because USA s sanctions were biting. We can't have some arab telling us what to do can we.
Operation freedom?? Bullshit. Confiscate the oil more like it.

I notice that people who use the childish phrase "Big Oil" never complain about "Big Sports" or "Big Hollywood" or "Big Apple" etc.

Liberals love their billionaires and giant corporations when they are serving the sick degenerate agenda of the Left.

But oil, which we cannot do without right now, is somehow bad.

At least Oil companies provide a necessary product: It keeps your cars and boats and planes going.

What does "Big Sports" or "Big Hollywood" provide? Woke crap garbage, thats what.

Our lives would greatly suffer without oil.

I believe that, generally speaking, Democrats regularly demonstrate their lack of foresight by their political views.

They would do away with oil and then learn how much we depend on it after it's too late.

They are trying to do away with our successful and well proven economic system and Democratic Representative form of government in favor of lesser systems and would learn the truth too late.
