Before firearms, slings were often used as hunting or war weapons. Injuries are hardly surprising.

The place was crawling with such people, when I was there. Where they were the week earlier, I do not know - I must have been only 11 or 12 at the time. The camp was called Camp Charles, NC, for the record, asur, which is (or was) somewhere near Wilson, NC, as I recall.

We also went on an unsupervised camping trip during a hurricane. Thought it was great fun, when the tent started floating in the rainwater. Times were different, back then, and children were not as closely supervised as they are today.

When we were in the scouts, the place in the woods where we camped was also frequented by couples, who often had sex. We watched and listened. It was entertaining. When the rubbers popped out of the car windows, we sometimes giggled, and were often chased off. Pre-teens had to have some fun. Watching your neighbors is certainly a useful skill.

At the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in 2000, delegates booed a group of young Scouts as they led the Pledge of Allegiance. And in 2001, a group of Democrats in Congress led a failed effort to repeal the Boy Scouts’ federal charter.

Recent history is replete with further examples of the animosity of the National Democratic Party toward the BSA. And did I mention that the membership of the ACLU, which has filed hundreds of lawsuits against the BSA and its use of public facilities, is comprised mostly of Democrats, with a sprinkling of nonaligned liberals thrown in?

The fact is, Boy Scouting has ties to God, Church and things that liberals really despise!
Plus Boy Scouting teaches young boys to be self-dependent, which is a threat to
liberalism and the state. They also try to instill values like honesty, love of freedom, love of country, etc., which is
anti-democrat and anti-socialism.

Most if not all of the former countries of the former USSR banned scouting and China still does. Hitler replaced scouting with his "Hitler Youth", Mussolini banned certain scout groups.

I was involved with the cub scouts and boy scouts for well over 23 years and not once, not one time in any of those meetings/outings/camp outs/camping trips and 2 week long excursions did any-one's political ideologies sneak into the adult discussion or adult to young man discussion...NADA/ZIP/ZILCH/NO HOW. We were to preoccupied with teaching nature/safety/campsite chores/having fun and enjoying the event.

You need to relax and get a grip on that overly wrought sense of 'them liberals are out to get you complex'...cause it just ain't so!!!

I think its partly because they have a number of Christians and that is somewhat brought into it. And because they really promote the USA

But the biggest reason is because they made a stand and said no homosexual troop leaders.


I understand why they did it, They got big on the crack down of homosexual troop leaders about the time the priest molesting kids stuff came out. But some feel it was more about hating homosexuals.

Exactly...and add a few incidental things like hatchets/small knives into that fray and someone is going to get hurt...so having the 'sharp objects' locked up and available while camping and handed out for the proper activity while supervised is the RESPONSIBLE thing to do.

But this entire thread is as much a 'GOOSE CHASE' as anything else that the originator has posted. The article clearly stated that there was a problem in the UK and that was way the British were looking at the 'knife ban' to start with. JEEZ LOUISE Much ado about NOTHING!!!

I recall the Porkulous bill passed by Dems at one point, without a single republican vote, had a special sneaky provision aimed at eliminating boy scouts and christian schools.


In both the House and Senate version of that stimulus there was a provision that was tailor made for the ACLU to shut down more boy scout troops, divinity schools, etc.

Both versions of the bill, the House version (H.R. 1) that passed on Jan. 28 by a 244-188 margin, without a single Republican vote, and the Senate version (S. 336)– included language that would “prohibit” modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities:

1. used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or
2. in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission

Such language was regrettable and could leave some institutions of higher learning susceptible to a legal action by organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) according to a spokesman from South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint’s office. . . .

Hey, I never touted any boy scout leaders in this thread.
I never called them conservative. Check your facts please.

Again I see you speak disparaging of those leaders as you called them "conservative", as if it's a bad thing. Who said they were conservative? You did!

The leaders are part of Scouts, they are registered members, so again you are degrading
the Boy Scouts, by degrading them.
