Can Obama Cut Deficit?

I am kind of amazed. In one month, Obama has definitely started down a new direction in running the government. And no doubt he has had the support of every Democratic politician to pass the new spending laws.

Conversely, the Republicans have been noticeably absent from the new Obama philosophy.
C'mon....they've got A TRADITION to maintain.

Mr. Shaman

Mr. Obama has committed to spend more in just three weeks than George Bush
has in last eight years.

So that chart needs some adjusting.

At leats people were happy and the economy was good under George Bush.
Ah the good times are no longer.

Yeah.....there was sooooooooooooooooooo much to celebrate....if you lived long-enough.

The Economy did very well after the 2001 tax cut... too bad Obama is going to let that expire. Maybe he can drag out this recession to a depression.

The last year of Clinton, 2000, ended in a recession. The declining economy throughout 2001 pushed Bush to support a tax cut. The result of which was a steady increase in the rate of growth for the next 4 years.

Then the economy leveled out until the CRA policy, a leftover from the Clinton years, pushing banks to make subprime loans, finely caused the crash many had expected for years.

Point: Tax cuts worked. They always do.

Recession... Clinton.. Who cares. Really.

Dems are out ot change the country as well as some pretty moderate republicans. The libs play this little guilt game. What about the needy. What about the states budget problems. What about the illegals. What about this and that.

Then the blame game starts. Those evil rich people who succeeded are terrible and we need to bring them down a notch.

Every chance we get we have to let the libs and dems know that the conservatives are not going to just sit back and watch this crap happen.

And this whole thing about making Republicans feel guilty for bush. Yeah. The last coulple years were tough, but remember, the congress was all dem controlled since 2006. As I remember that's when the congress gained control and that's when the spiral started. Name anything good the dems in congress did... Nothing. It was all about stopping the war and then bashing bush at every chance they had.

so people. wake up and take note. America does not need to be restructured into a socialist state where everyone is equal and the govt picks the winners and losers.

the govt needs to take a back-seat and let the american spirt thrive and then america will thrive.

Plenty of dems voted for the war in Iraq, and all the blame on Bush

I could almost tolerate that big deficit IF I were somewhat confident that the money being spent had a reasonably good chance of turning the economy around. But the overriding theme of most economists I hear on MSNBC these days is that nobody really knows how to pull the economy out of its current recession. Most people agree that the Keynesian theory of spending government money to stimulate the economy doesn't consistently work. On the other hand, even Greenspan has admitted recently that the free market cannot be relied upon to correct itself.

Why? Are there examples of economies that did not at some point get corrected? A: no.

It's worse than that--we don't produce much stuff that other people (nations) want to buy at our prices. Therefore, we're going to find it more and more difficult to buy the oil that we need to sustain (which we can't) our standard of living.

Does anyone doubt that when new workers show up who are willing to work for less that wages come down? A: No.

And since all those Chinese people are suddenly competing with us there is no doubt that until their wages come up it will drive ours down.

The surest way to protect American wages is to create awareness among Chinese citizens that they need to protect themselves from companies that send mercury up smokestacks and put poison in food, and from their government, etc.
