Chemical attack in Syria

Partisan bickering aside, wasn't destroying, or at least attempting to destroy, Assad's ability to fly warplanes justified?

Seems like an vc appropriate response though Vlad does not concurr.
Does this mean DJT is no longer his puppet ?
I'd say that bromance is over and that Putin, like so many voters in the US, may be having some second thoughts about who he supported as POTUS.

Kidding aside, this is a setback in Russian/American relations, but the Russians will get over it after a little ranting and hooting.

I don't really think he cares but needs to grouse for internal Russian consumption.
Won't hurt relations, they need better relations while we just want them.

Guess it would depend on how one approaches the Constitution. It was not an appropriate response when Obama proposed it in 2013.

The question remains unanswered as to "What next?"

"As Russian leadership condemned the U.S.' first intentional attack on the military of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the country's six-year conflict began, Russia's Admiral Grigorovich frigate reportedly left its port of Sevastopol, Crimea, and headed toward the U.S. destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross. The vessels had launched a barrage of 59 Tomahawk missiles early Friday morning against Syria's Shayrat Airfield, which Washington alleged was the origin of a suspected chemical attack on the Syrian rebel-held city of Idlib. Moscow argued the toxic discharge was the result of a Syrian airstrike on a chemical weapons facility used by rebels and has said it would take "a complex of measures" to protect Syrian troops from further U.S. action.

Russia's 4,000-ton warship came equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, one of Moscow's latest and most deadly high-tech projectiles, and was headed to dock in the Syrian city of Tartus, according to Russia's official TASS News Agency. The ship's movement was also confirmed by Turkish ship spotter Yoruk Isik, who told the U.S. Naval Institute's news agency that the ship had crossed the Bosphorus Strait only nine days after docking from a previous Mediterranean voyage."

Without Russia Trump could not get a loan for his businesses ventures. Time will tell.

The question is whether the missile strike was successful. That depends on the aim. If its aim was just to boost Trump in the polls it was successful as his polls will improve.
If it was to stop Chemical attacks it will be successful if there are no more. But if there is it will have to be repeat until Assad gets the message. It may gain the moral ground for Trump. He mention God several times. This was not reported in the Australian newspapers.
If his aim was to weaken Assad or even replace him. Then Assad is weaken in the west but I doubt he will be replaced.

The problem with replacing Assad is that the replacement could be worse than the original.

Well it was the only airport for m ilitary aircraft so until it gets rebuilt he'll have to throw the sarin.
Not intended to end the civil war. Just be more civil about it.

Nope! The expensive publicity stunt was merely a show. . .it didn't destroy the airport, didn't even hit the runways! Only took out 20 planes and a few side buildings. Planes are already flying out of that same airport.

Syrian jets take off from air base U.S. missiles struck - Syrian Observatory
Syrian warplanes took off from an air base which was hit by U.S. cruise missiles on Friday, and carried out air strikes on rebel-held areas in the eastern Homs countryside, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The U.S. Navy had fired dozens of missiles at the air base near Homs city in response to a chemical attack this week which Washington and its allies blamed on the Damascus government.

The British-based Observatory, a group monitoring the Syrian war using sources on the ground, said eight people had been killed in the U.S. attack.
