The chinese appear to be making steady strides in space (even though this was accomplished by the US 43 years ago). The US has to start thinking once more about space weapons. The chinese purpose in their space program can only be military ultimately. Chinese military doctrine against the US calls for taking full advantage of assymmetry - they know the whole US military, even individual munitions, now depend on space assets. Crippling these would be a devastating blow to the US military worldwide.

China also shot down one of their own satellites last year. That action has major implications for control of information, especially during a war.

While I would not advocate putting offensive missile capabilities into space at the money, I would advocate looking into a missile defense shield for our satellites to prevent them from being shot down should some conflict arise.

But threats in space to our space assets probably themselves need to be in space.

Here I thought the thread was about how Socialist nations lie through their teeth... namely, the situation that arose on Friday when China released to the press a conversation that took place between a Chinese cosmonaut and ground control while the cosmonaut was circling the earth.... Only problem was... when the press release hit the news wire, the cosmonaut and his ship were still sitting on the launch pad waiting to blast off:

China Launch Success Hits Web Hours Before Actual Blast-Off

China has successfully launched their Shenzhou 7 mission this morning. It will be their first-ever spacewalk and a major steps towards their trip to the Moon, so its completion is vital not only for their space program but also for Chinese propaganda. So vital that a full article describing the success of the launch was actually written and posted hours before the actual launch, including descriptions and astronauts' dialogue that never happened:
Thats Socialism for ya! :)

Leftists lying is nothing new - lying to them is like breathing for normal people. But the chinese effort in space is ominous.

You'd never get a right wing Government like Bush's lying about anything would you?

And the US invented the war on terror to justify massive spending on star wars so that they could control the skies.

You don't like it when another nation equalises do you?

But don't worry, if China stopped supporting the US financially the US would be ****ed.

That's socialim for ya.

Yea, I mean a defensive missile platform located in space to protect our satellites.

The US should probably bring back something like Brilliant Pebbles. If Obama gets elected, one of the many things dictators around the world will have to cheer about is that the PRC will get at least four more years to enhance their capabilities in this area, completely unopposed.

Chinese banks already halted loaning us money.

And the US has not been spending money on "star wars" under the guise of the War on Terror. Nice try though.
