Telemarketers Get Higher Approval Rating Than U.S. Congress

Stockbrokers receive higher public- approval marks than the U.S. Congress. So do telemarketers, health maintenance organizations and banks.
Approval of Congress’s performance fell to 10 percent in August, tying a record low set in February, according to a Gallup poll released Aug. 14.

And yet we keep electing the same people to Congress over and over. What's up with that?

These polls have had the same result for decades. They are meaningless and likely political.

Most Americans do even know who their congressperson is. So, it is easy to blame Congress.

It seems to me these polls regularly come out when the Rs have control. Which makes one think, they are politically based.

The R's have control of half.

so, the results are only half bad, right?

Again you appear to show up here NEW everyday.

I suspect few on this forum have been as hard on the Rs as me. If you were paying attention, you would know that the difference between many Rs and most Ds, is very little. They are stinking progressives. That is why we find ourselves in such a mess. But, I suspect you fail to see this.

And you want the parties to COMPROMISE...you are so funny...just like the lib MSM does...is that were you got that silly notion???....that whacky weed really messes with your mind...

I've said for some time that there is little difference between the two parties. You're the one always railing about the Dems and their press, etc.

If there is little difference between the two parties, then why won't they compromise? Why aren't they on the same page, in fact?

Answer: Their goal is the same, to get power for themselves and keep that power as long as they can. They do this by fooling as many as possible into supporting them and by pointing at the other guy as the source of all ills.

You really are stoned...again.

Why won't they compromise?....WTF!!!...what do you think they have been doing for the past several decades?

Compromising with liberals is how we got to the edge of the cliff...and you want more compromise....good lord lighten up on the bong will you?

If you think that the Republicans and Democrats have actually been getting together to hammer out compromise bills to solve real world problems we face as a nation during the past few years, then you're the one who must be puffing on the wacky tabaccy.

Congress is dysfunctional as a result of hyper partisanship. You haven't noticed that?

Are you one of those 10% who think Congress is actually doing a good job?

It takes two to compromise. Ask Reid about compromise. The house has sent over dozens of bills that he won't even bring to the floor for a discussion, let alone a compromise.

No doubt because they were supported by Republicans.

Now, if there really isn't much difference between the two parties....

Oh, never mind. The answer is obvious, isn't it? The real goal of both parties is to get as much power as possible while taking it from the other party. If one party supports a bill, then the other must oppose it even if it is something that they would have proposed had they done it first.

Hyper partisanship and power struggles. That's the real problem.

There are power happy people in government for sure. But there are also diametrically opposed ideological differences between a lot of them too, and some things just aren't negotiable. Most on the right hate aborion, and the left wants murder on demand. Most Republican's don't buy into global warming and the left wants deniers arrested. What are you going to do with that? How do you compromise that?

The Founding Fathers would be delighted that Congress--the successor to the Virginia House of Burgesses--
is the hotbed of accusation and acrimony that it is today.
Study that body's history sometime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Burgesses

That is what it was meant to be,
Extreme debate and impassioned disagreement.
Then--go to your corners and come back with compromise and solution.
It is the very root and foundation of the USA.
Harmony and cumbayah was not the purpose.
That produces sycophancy, compliance, capitulation and then--monarchy or dictatorship.

You admit that abortion was a decision of the Supreme Court, and that the Congress has no way to reverse it. You quit using abortion as a "conservative" vs "liberal" mantra. We just went from the most pro life president in recent memory to the most pro choice, and what changed? Nothing. Abortion is a non issue in elections.

You admit that global warming is real, and that there isn't squat that the government can do about it, and then go on your way.

You address the real issues that the federal government actually has control over: Taxes, the wars, illegal immigration, the deficit, you know, the things that the candidates don't want to talk about.

That's how you compromise and come up with real solutions to real problems that the federal government can really address.
