Eco-nazis VS Business

Eco-nazis? A rather emotionally charged term. Really, they have a legitimate right to complain about such business practises, albeit completely legal ones. As has been said, this can reflect public opinion in general. "Progress" is never made by just shutting up and NOT complaining.

Also, serpentinization? Might be possible, but I'll remain sceptical until there is enough scientific support for that theory. Would it be a good thing, though? Even if fossil fuels were found to be renewable and constantly regenerating, there is still the problem of pollution which needs to be dealt with.

Nuclear isn't "too good for us," it's too much of a hazard. Nuke plants tend to last around thirty years; after that time, the plant has to be sealed up, because the radioactive material inside will stay radioactive for around a millenium. These plants can't be "resupplied" once the fuel rods run out, and since, at present, there's no safe place in the United States to dump radioactive waste, the plants themselves become heavily walled repositories of radioactive chemicals - which have to be heavily guarded to keep terrorists from getting their hands on some nasty implements of death, disease, and destruction.

Nuclear isn't too much of a risk - especially compared to other power sources - the relevent comparison. Total number of people outside a plant killed in over 60 years of operation all over the US? A big, fat, perfectly round ZERO. :) That radioactive materials stay radioactive for a thousand years is no biggee - they do so at an exponenetially decreasing rate, and so do naturally-occurring radioactive materials in the ground. The "resupplied" is no issue. The "no safe place" is nonsense on it's face - in the 6 million square miles of the US, there's not one or two anywhere?
The "guarded" is also no issue - no army is going to enter the US, such a repository can be easily guarded.

The US for many years has put up with death and danger from fossil fuels - damage to the environment, probably many people have died from breathing combustion affluents, coal mine disasters, refinery fires, etc. Nuclear is incomparably safer, and the opposition to it is irrational.
