Short term: increase the supply of hydrocarbon fuels; longer term: decrease dependence on hydrocarbon fuels. Conservatives have no long term solution; Liberals have no short term solution. Together, they can either solve the problem, or cancel each other out.
But to work together, they must first forcefully purge the Podhoretz Neo-Cons from the Republican Party and the Leiberman Neo-Libs from the Democrat Party. Hillary burnt at the stake, and McCain’s date with firing squad in November, are a promising start.

The problem is that the conservatives have controlled the situation and they are greedy by nature. When oil is cheap they have refused to even entertain the idea of alternatives because it wasn't going to make them more money. This is American capitalism failing again.

And now if the price of oil declines they will again refuse to take the needed steps when they have an opportunity because it won't be the most profitable and cost effective thing to do. This will be American capitalism failing again.

Increase the supply of hydrocarbons exactly HOW?? And neoconservatism doesn't have anything to say about energy policy, so it's unclear what you mean. And have paleocons been renowned for their energy solutions? The fact is that everyone has neglected the issue for many years.

Exactly, American government!

Which of course the whole world recognizes as one of the most extreme forms of corrupt capitalism in the world.

We're on a roll libs!

BLAAAAAAH HEE HEE! :) Only a statist would confuse "government" and "capitalism" - about like confusing "up" with "down". Har! :D :p :)

Can you do another whole page of 'BLAAAAAAH HEE HEE' for us again.

You really must learn to correct your bad behaviour because it's not good for the forum. And besides, I don't want to have to keep reporting you.

No you all have a nice day ya hear!

What the heck is this? An entire thread completely removed from any attempt at reality? The only post thus far that had the slightest validity was USHadIT saying that posts by Libs saying "HEE HAW HA <blaw blaw" made him look stupid, which it does.

Other than that, none of you seem to have the slightest connection to reality here.

USHadIT, our capitalists are saving the lives of your children. Shut up about it already. If us capitalist are so bad, keep your dumb children in your socialist health care and let them die.

Back to the topic. What are you talking about? We neglected the issue? Our government failed? Capitalism isn't working? Conservatives do not have an answer? What are all of you smoking? That's some strong stuff and I wager highly illegal.

Capitalism is the reason every alternative energy source in use today, is here. Without capitalism there would be no wind mills, geothermal plants, Ethanol, Biofuels, or even that lame hydrogen thing. This is not saying that all of these are successful replacements, but you can't say Capitalism isn't looking for alternative fuels, when dozens have been developed and are successfully used. The issue obviously hasn't be neglected because there are dozens of alternative energy sources in use.

The flat out answer is, Oil is amazingly useful, amazingly energy packed, and amazingly cheap. Nothing else comes close, and nor will it in the near future. There is no magic wand to pop an energy source into existence that does not exist.

Our government failed? Yeah cause that's not capitalism, that's socialism, and socialism always fails. Our government, listening to socialists, not conservatives, has ended up blowing money on dozens of foolish socialist programs that never had a chance of succeeding. That is the only failure of our government.

Conservatives don't have an answer? Yes we do. We always had an answer. Let the free market reign. We lead the world in alternative fuel development. We have the first commercial bio oil plant in world, is located here in the Capitalist US, every day changing waste from nearby food processing plants, into usable crude oil. We have the worlds largest Geothermal installed capacity. We have the second largest Wind Power installed capacity. Third largest hydropower installed capacity. The largest solar power plant in the world, is in California.

In fact, in alternative energy news, the USA ranks number 1 in a list of countries with potential alternative energy investing.

Here's the basic philosophy. IF oil does in fact dry up, then, as it does, the price will climb. Supply and Demand, it makes the world go around. As supply goes down, price goes up. Thus, as the price goes up, so will the demand for an alternative. As the demand for an alternative goes up, it will become competitive with oil, all by itself, with no help or hinderance from the government at all. And as cheaper alternatives to the expensive oil become more available, they will replace the oil.

Capitalism always works. Socialism always fails. Canadians are always... in need of our health care it seems. Anyway, this... is reality. Wake up people.

Bravo, very well said.

I did not know we were number 1 in alternative energy. It seems like the libs would shut up already about us being more like Europe.

I guess since I always hear from the left how great Europe is and how bad we suck and how bad oil sucks, then Europe must do more wind mills exc than us.

Germany specifically has more wind mills, and only they have more wind mills. We are second place. Not exactly the "we've done nothing, we're so far behind, we suck" type answer we keep hearing.

We are number one in investment currently. Meaning, for companies looking to invest into alternative energy, they have no better market on the planet, than the US. It isn't Europe, or Canada, or any stupid socialist country. It's us, the Capitalist US of A.

The only way to make the US look bad in a comparison, is to pair us against countries that have literally nothing in common with us. Like US vs Israel. Yeah, they have almost no natural resources, thus energy fuel is expensive, and they are in the middle of a desert. They have more solar energy generation than we do... YA THINK?!

Or US vs Iceland. They have one of the most geologically active areas on planet, with a mere fraction of the population and thus power usage. They are sustained on Geo-power.... Ya think?!

Or US vs China. Largest populations in the world, which spent 50 years in rice patties earning 25¢ an hour. Now they pop out of the grip of communism with a still dangerous government pressed by the world to use 'green-energy'. Massive influx of money from Capitalism being unleashed, allowed the Socialist government to build the largest amount of Hydropower in the world. What they didn't tell you is that the dams displaced 1.13 Million people, and caused massive mud slides killing hundreds and leaving many homeless. Yet the non-greed, socialistic government not only doesn't care, but plans an even larger displacement of people to build more dams in the future. Oh BRILLIANT! Let's do that hear!

Basically if you shut off your brain, and toss all your education and reasoning in the garbage, US does start to look bad compared to somewhere else.
