This from Matt Taibbi (one of the few journalists actually doing investigative reporting and did a great job exposing government/business corruption/failures in the Gulf Oil spill)...with Rolling Stone.

This is a most disgusting story. It proves (once again) when government and big business collude, the people get screwed. Its time to End The Fed!

The Real Housewives of Wall StreetWhy is the Federal Reserve forking over $220 million in bailout money to the wives of two Morgan Stanley bigwigs?

It was time to "end the Fed" almost a hundred years ago. We have Wilson and FDR and LBJ and Nixon to thank for this country's monetary system, which amounts to paper and ink promises and intrinsically worthless coins.

When governments and business collude it is called corporatism.

It is one of if not the biggest threat facing our nation today.

Government is supposed to be the watchdog of business. If they collude then there is no watchdog.

You can' stop business from trying to influence government but we can stop politicians from willingly letting themselves be bought. We need more controls on government. We have lost many checks and balances that our nation used to enjoy while at the same time all three branches of federal government have grown and state governments have become relatively weak (though still larger).

The only loser is the people.

Agreed, but if Taibbi's reporting is correct, in that the Fed has given BILLIONS to big money people and organizations around the world with no strings attached and placing the American people on the hook for any losses, why is this not a HUGE story in the press? Why is it that we Americans are not being informed of this collusion between government and big business?

The current state of affairs is most disheartening and the toadies in the media are just as responsible as our government and big business.

The Fundamental Injustice That Is Poisoning the Nation

April 20, 2011 (Mobile version)

The guilty are powerful and free, the innocent burdened and oppressed: that is injustice.

There is a fundamental injustice that is poisoning the soul of the nation, and if it is not openly addressed then the nation will face the explosive consequences of institutionalized injustice.

Simply put, it is this: those responsible for the nation's financial crisis and its catastrophic after-effects are not paying for the consequences of their actions--it is the innocent, those who were not responsible, who are paying the price.

So true. The corruption we are witnessing in government and big business is beyond belief.

I read the FBI has submitted evidence against numerous Wall Street Bankers showing mutliple frauds were committed, but the Obama Justice Dept is not acting for fear that by doing so it will harm the economy.

Crazy!

One thing I have learned from you all being on this forum is that this is an issue that is more important than I would have previously thought.

This is also an issue on which both left and right agree. But we do often get distracted arguing over which party or players are more guilty.
