Affirmative action is a big part of this country, and while not to say this is always the case, it has lead to many opinions and examples of this very thing.

Look at the results from the international TIMSSS test in science - the longer US students spend in the government schools, the lower they rank! Clearly, the government schools are ruining the academic careers of students who start out with good potential. But, hey, we beat Cyprus.
