Good for the House Republicans! Some of them have finally started remembering why they were elected.

They have refused to vote for House Speaker Boehner's plan that would raise taxes on people and businesses earning $1 million or more. So Boehner has decided to cancel the vote.

Stand strong, Republicans, even if you have a squishy leader. You were elected based on your promise to NOT raise taxes. Thank God you remember that, and are even keeping your promises!

Naturally, the RINOs are now carping the Democrat line, echoed even by Grover Norquist's group, saying that since the law as currently on the books ALREADY calls for everyone's taxes to go up on Jan. 1 (thanks to the expiration date the Democrats insisted be part of the law), then technically Boehner's plan doesn't raise taxes, the Democrats are raising taxes.

But House Republicans are actually exhibiting the common sense that is missing from the RINOs (very unusual for a politician to exhibit common sense), and are even sticking to the promises they made when campaigning and getting elected about not raising ANY taxes (Very, very unusual for a politician to keep his promises!).

Keep up the good work, Republicans. Keep pointing out to everyone that the Bush tax rates are not the cause of our problems - spending is.

Hmmm... if Republicans can fight off the fake line that says technically it's not them raising taxes... is there any chance they will soon fight off the even more fake line, that if we SPEND 10% more next year instead of the 15% more we had originally planned, that's supposedly a spending "cut"? It is NOT a spending cut, of course, but still a 10% spending increase. Known to everyone with common sense... meaning, everybody except politicians.

Lacking GOP support, Republicans yank ‘fiscal cliff’ ‘Plan B’

House Speaker Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, speaks to the media about the fiscal cliff at the U.S. Capitol in Washington. …In a stinging setback for Republican House Speaker John Boehner, a lack of support from inside his own party for his “fiscal cliff” fall-back plan forced him late Thursday to cancel a much-trumpeted vote on the measure.

“The House did not take up the tax measure today because it did not have sufficient support from our members to pass,” Boehner said in a written statement released after an emergency meeting of House Republicans.

The measure, dubbed “Plan B,” would have let Bush-era tax cuts expire on income above $1 million annually, while extending them for everyone else.

Reid sent the Senate home, BO said 'no way' so why bother to seek out the disastrous common ground when all you get for your trouble is rebuff3ed. again.

The left wants this across the board, economy killing biggest tax increase in our history.

so let them have it.

but no debt limit increase.

addicts can only get better when they hit rock bottom. its bad that these addicts feel the need to take the whole country with them but they don't care.

“We will have to be here the 27th no matter what happens,” Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer said. “If there’s no agreement we have to be here to try and hammer out something. If there is an agreement it’ll take several days to write it up–our poor staffs will have to be doing it during the holiday–and then vote on it the 27th.”

Oh boo hoo. Shut up Chucky......you've known this was coming for the last 18 months and now you want to complain that it's going to mess up your vay-cay. It's sure not going to ruin Obummer's 4 million dollar, tax payer paid holiday in Hawaii.

Half of me thinks Congress will just pass an extension on the Bush tax cut and don't make any changes to the budget -- kind of status quo on one page.

The other half of me thinks Congress will jump off the "cliff" and maybe try to make small changes in the coming year. Tax code reform is high on freshmen Congressmember's agenda. So we might see some improvement in who pays how much taxes.

Who knows?

Who knows is right. Looks like Boehner isn't going to get any tax increases with this House.
So it's now in Obummer's court. It's up to him and I think he wants to go off the cliff. Really doesn't matter one way or the other. Without a budget and reductions in spending and a plan for economic growth, this country isn't going to stop the coming recession.

A couple of months ago I saw where a woman made a spread sheet of everything she paid out during the year and tracked every tax she paid. It was quite a high percentage of her income, even though she wasn't in a high income bracket. When you add up both state and federal taxes and fees (which are hidden taxes) you might be surprised too.

the Fair Tax people determined that if you removed ALL "hidden taxes an d income/sales taxes only federal in nature to replace it with a 23% consumption tax it would break even. so 23 cents of every dollar you spend on a thing go to the federal government. moreover the distribution would even out across income brackets.

but it can never be considered as it fairly treats the lower classes.

I want the flat tax. Everyone who earns over $25,000 pays 35% but Feds eliminate state income and sales taxes. Then feds give states so much to spend so they spernd it wisely. Thats disapline,,something California doesnt understand. Then add 35% Luxery taxes,,everything from Jewlery,,Gold and diamond watches,Necklaces,Earrings, bracelets,,Yachts,,Limos,Cars over $75,000,Expensive business suits,Ties,Fur coats,Private Jets and million dollar mansions.

The problem is that any system of taxation can and will be circumvented by the politicians. You can come up with a thousand good ideas to reduce taxes, but people with the power in Washington will slowly twist it around until the whole intent is gone. With your system are you going to allow for deductions for charities? That is the path all these ideas follow.

Every idea that costs money seems like a good idea to some group of people. "Get the homeless off the streets", etc. But all the good ideas, added together, costs more money than we as a nation can afford. It is easier to just look for ways to pay for these good ideas, rather than finding a way to cut programs that really aren't so great.

Perhaps a Constitutional Amendment could get taxes and spending under control.

thats the beauty of fair tax. only one tax and its 100% tanspsrant

Im against a national sales tax. Unless they take traffic cops off the books. That means they cant look for Parking violations,,Traffic Violations or drivers disobey traffic signs. then im all for a national sales tax. That way cops would do their jobs do the importaint stuff like preventing murder, rape, arson,Auto theft,Robbery and muggings.

national sales tax applies to federal taxation and spending. cops are paid locally or by the state for state police.
