North Korea's consistent message to the U.S.

By Jimmy Carter
Wednesday, November 24, 2010

No one can completely understand the motivations of the North Koreans, but it is entirely possible that their recent revelation of their uranium enrichment centrifuges and Pyongyang's shelling of a South Korean island Tuesday are designed to remind the world that they deserve respect in negotiations that will shape their future. Ultimately, the choice for the United States may be between diplomatic niceties and avoiding a catastrophic confrontation.

Dealing effectively with North Korea has long challenged the United States. We know that the state religion of this secretive society is "juche," which means self-reliance and avoidance of domination by others. The North's technological capabilities under conditions of severe sanctions and national poverty are surprising. Efforts to display its military capability through the shelling of Yeongpyeong and weapons tests provoke anger and a desire for retaliation. Meanwhile, our close diplomatic and military ties with South Korea make us compliant with its leaders' policies.

The main crime of Unoccupied Korea is to reject the imperialism of the US and it's lickspittle client regime, Occupied Korea.

As such, it is of course, subject to the usual farrago of lies about totalitarianism, prison camps. torture and similar matters that are spread about any socialist country or economy.

If Unoccupied Korea is such a basket case, how come they have managed to develop nuclear weapons.

Comrade Stalin

Right... North Korea is really a very happy place with no problems...

As for how they managed to develop nuclear weapons.. you seem to forget the USSR established the infrastructure in the mid 1960s.

"Unoccupied" Korea is not a "basket case", it is "occupied" Korea that is. Seems like the usual communist propaganda has made you forget the actual cause of the Korean War.

As to nuclear weapons, they have a powerful ally in China which continues to prop up their military even as they build up their own. Just as the USSR wanted to use Cuba as a base, China uses No. Korea as the same. All of this is made possible with US dollars, however, that is another topic.

What the US should do is recognize that the shelling of So. Korea, and the sinking of one of their destroyers, is an act of war, and the truce has been broken. In retribution, or as an act of defense, the South should just bomb the hell out of those batteries that shelled the So., and let the chips fall where they may. To be controlled by a pipsqueak power such as No. Korea is asinine.

Carter was the one who greatly increased the instability of the region when he was president by throwing the Republic of China over the side, and pulling lots of US troops out of south korea. Carter, who has sunk to the number two worst US president only after the obozo calamity, had a stupendously disastrous foreign policy.

Whaaaaaaatttttttttt??????? :D

Among his many failings, Carter got Anwar Sadat assassinated, and helped give birth to the modern islamofascist movement.
