Russian dominance of WHAT? The Russians got their butts kicked by the U.S. space program from the mid-60s on.

Russian space technology became vastly inferior to American space technology, and the Russians threw in the towel after July of 1969.

The only legitimate Russian technology was stolen from the United States. The Russian space shuttle looked strangely identical to the U.S. space shuttles, until the Russians pulled the plug on the whole thing.

We'll never know how many "cosmonauts" lost their lives because of shoddy workmanship, poor technology, and ridiculous timetables established by the communist leadership.

Do you really want to roll out comparative catastrophic failure statistics between the USA and USSR? I didn't think so.

Lets see... The space program was started by, and developed by, liberals. It was run by liberals, it was funded by liberals. It was closed down and killed by Conservatives.

Any greatness that is fading away can be laid directly in the lap of the TEA Partiers and their hysteria about cutting spending.

Didn't TEA Partiers realize that when they made draconian cuts in spending that programs would end?

Yes, its kind of sad that the space shuttle program is no more. This was a crowing achievement for the United States. It was the one thing no one could take away from us or dispute. Yes, it will probably be disputed from now till doomsday (if there is one) that we actually were the first ones on the moon. But no one can take the space shuttle program away froms, we became the pioneers in the space program when we created the first and still only reusable space vehicle. There were some great highs and some devestating lows in this program but it was certainly one of the history books.
