America was founded in large part as part of a revolt against high and unjust taxes.

Our system recognizes that taxes are necessary but evil. And that is true, we do need them and every dollar taken from every american is an evil that should be avoided to our greatest ability to do so.

Taking more tax than is needed is immoral. Taking money from a person who really needs it for a purpose that is less important than their need is immoral. Taking money from a person even if they do not need it then using it for purposes that are contrary to the constitution is also immoral. Using rules that results in Joe paying a larger percent of his money than Frank is immoral. Taking money from Joe because we don't like him is immoral.

The main point here though is that even if raising taxes were good rather than evil it will not result in increased revenue for the government and will not result in increased services from that government and will instead result in a harm to the economy, a harm to all of us.

yet it has been argued here many times that raising taxes will not help. And it seems that no matter how many times it is said those who want to raise taxes just go right on asking for an increase in taxes.

So this thread is about finally making an argument (or strategy or tactic or appeal...) that will stick. Do your best, Make your best argument. Collaborate if need be, Revise and refine what you say. But in the end come up with something that will stick! We only need to find a "sticky" once then it can be repeated to newcomers again and again. No excuses. No saying that a sticky does not exist. That is defeatist.

I'll have to digest this.

I think going back to the original intent of the Constitution is a good place to start.

This doesn't address your thread, but something I heard on the radio today is an antidote to it. They were talking about FEMA. FEMA came about under Carter. What good are they? What do they really do? We lived without it before. We've employed how many people year round and pay their benefits and buy their buildings and give them how much out of the Treasury yearly? Yet they don't seem to do what's needed in a crisis.

Maybe we should decide that the costs of disasters isn't the responsibility of the federal government. Also, FEMA doesn't address the needs that the Nat'l Guard and local agencies can. Government is too big, too ineffecient and we as a country are collapsing under the weight of it all.
