The two-state solution may have been materialised informally with the UN vote but Palestine cannot expect to win more concessions from Israel especially on the West Bank settlements and the bid was successful because the PA distanced itself from Hamas to meet the criteria of 'peace-loving' and it was impossible when Arafat was in charge.

Nothing is really going to change -- its mostly a symbolic thing. The part that matters, and would grant them UN membership and real state recognition has to be done through the Security Council -- which is never going to allow it.

Dogtower, The Un might carry not authority to you and Conservative Americans but it carries a lot of authority to most of the world. All wars since WW2 except Iraq have been conducted under UN mandate., There are UN peacekeeping forces in many countries. Aid to the poor and sick has been conducted mainly through the UN.

Dogtower If you do not face reality, the swing of power to Palestine, You will lose. It is not a left wing issue. Left wing governments in the past opposed barbery in Indo China, the Congo , South America, and various parts of Asia. But we learn to live withe reality. That something the Conservatives seem unable to do
