John McCain, recognizing the importance of Latino voters in the upcoming election, spoke to the National Council of La Raza yesterday.

After his speech, McCain opened the floor to about 15 minutes of Q&A. A young woman asked whether McCain would support the Dream Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act), which gives undocumented young people a chance to earn U.S. citizenship by going to college or enlisting in the military.

Flip flop time:

The hideously mis-named "dream act" is a nightmare - incredibly, it gives privileges to illegal alien invaders over US citizens. That anyone could support such a thing shows how lunatic the pelosi-obama leftwing extremists have become.

John McCain has co sponsored several different versions of the Dream Act. I wouldn't be blaming that on Pelosi and Obama.

I didn't watch the video and I am not going to. If it is important enough for you to want to post you can post a transcript.

But since you are claiming that he flip flopped that would imply that he changed his positions for unworthy reasons. So first explain to us how he has changed his position. Someone here posted that he supported the dream bill several times. And that there are several versions. Has he ever not supported it? If so is there one version that he did not support and did they make some change to it that was a reasonable reason to not support it?

It seems to be that every time someone changes their mind (not that we have even seen anything in writing to indicate that he has changed his mind) people call it a flip flop. We need to at least see that some position changed and then we must see that it changed for a frivelous reason before we can call it a flip flop.

I would much rather have a candidate who is able to evaluate changing times and make new decisions than one who is stubbornly stuck in a rut. If only O would change is position on driving our country into socialism.

If McCain flipped on this, it is a welcome return to sanity. Am I the only who is stunned that it's liberals' policy to do everything they can for illegal alien invaders while US CITIZENS have so many problems???

If you watched the video you can see that, though he flipped and claimed he was against the Dream Act late last year, he changed his mind again the other day and said he supported the Act.

Again, I don't see how you can blame immigration reform on the "liberals" when you have Bush and McCain both supporting it. Heck, the Bush Administration has always supported what amounts to amnesty for illegal aliens. How come I never see you bring that up? I guess it's much too convenient, if not entirely accurate, to blame everything you don't like on the "liberals."

As there have been several versions of the bill it could just be that he wants the dream act to pass in general but just does not want this version to pass.

Most recently he did not vote for cloture (for the bill to be allowed to be voted on). In other words he did not make a move that would allow the bill to die if it went to vote and lost. Sounds like he wants it to stay alive long enough to be amended again.
