McCain Suspends Campaign to focus on Crisis

OH NO! John McCain is ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED to debate. My God you've watched him. He's ducked more talking about the issues than any President EVER!

And they're so afraid to let Palin speak they keep her in a talking points box not allowed or able to answer real questions. Look how she didn't know what the heck the Bush doctrine was with Gibson... And Katie Couric had to ask the same questions over & over & over and still couldn't get an answer. You could almost see he shaking her head like... WHAT AN IDIOT, DO YOU KNOW NOTHING!

But on the other hand John McSame really has to hide from debates right now.

With the economy tanking and his "I vote with the President 95% of the time" buddy George Bush at a 19% overall 17% on the economy approval rating...

being already part of the Keating 5 Savings & Loan scandal...

having Phil Graham as his TOP economic advisor who was the architect of the ENRON LOOPHOLE & the legislation that did away with banking regulations...

being the self proclaim MR. DEREGULATION (A true Maverick... yes he's a motherless calf on that one alright, LoL!)

and just a few days ago saying I BELIEVE THE FUNDAMENTALS OF OUR ECONOMY ARE STRONG, right before the biggest financial crisis since THE GREAT DEPRESSION???????????

I agree with John here... I'd hide under any table or rock I could possibly find.

And God knows Palin can't run the campaign even if McCain just goes to the store for a can of pop.

That whole ticket is just totally & utterly worthless.

I am sorry but that is just flat stupid. I could see the point if the debate was about the economy and we are having this crisis. But the debate is on FP and Obama has no experience there except for he lived in Indonesia when he was 6-10 and went to Pakistan in college. Oh yes and he went to get worshiped earlier this year. The only foreign leaders he has met was on his world worship tour. So your theory here does not hold water, but if it makes you feel better to think this then go ahead.

Probably because it's an obvious political ploy. His poll numbers are dropping, the financial crisis is killing him, he has to try something.

O said that there was no need to worry about this. Then later he dropped everything and flew off to Washington too. This is just another example of bad judgement on Obama's part (like all of his radical relationships - terrorists, racists, and a spiteful wife). When the phone rings at 3 am he will just roll over and let the answering machine get it.

McCain's GOP manuever is a purely political one aimed at regaining his position in the polls.

It's a clever trick.

Inviting unwary dems to the Whitehouse under the false guise of "needing to meet together (on GWB's turf-make a note)" will lure them to political death.

The GOP is attempting to appear allied with dems when the entire voting public (statistically) believes the GOP is to blame and should be held to the fire by dems. They're trying to rub dookie on the dems by association, who would otherwise look like the knights in shining armor. Don't let them soil your armor dems..

Dems going along with this will diffuse critical momentum in the polls pro-Obama and anti-McCain.

McCain cancelled at the 11th hour for Friday's debate. If dems had one iota of political shrewdness left, they would do the same saying what is good for the goose is good for the gander. They should stay clear the hell away from GWB and the Whitehouse altogether. They will be un-lameducking GWB by seeming to turn to him in a crises. They leave McCain standing there like a fool, himself instead firmly allied with GWB (who voters hate) and then McCain also misses the debate on Friday (looking like a chicken ****e).

If the dems play this one correctly, risking a tiny bit of disdain from an insignificant fraction of the viewing public but the cheers from the vast majority, they stand to win HUGE political paydirt in the form of essentially disqualifying McCain from the race by his own hasty blunders, and associating himself unwisely with GWB (remember? A publicly hated figure seen as to blame for the mess we're in?) Don't let the title "President" fool you. He is nothing of the sort and turning him down will not be seen as anti-american. Quite the contrary actually.

Stand firm dems! Just say "no" to GWB's final attempt at sabatoge.

It's also to further the attempt of the GOP to panic the people and make them think something really scary is going on.

I swear to God if the dems go to that meeting, I'm changing my allegiance to the GOP, just because they're smarter by far.

Maybe lost all his chips in the same casino that the bankers were playing in so he would know a thing or two about that.

While the GOP is anxious to get us all myopic and narrowly focusing on the little picture; if we back away and look at the big picture, we will see something they don't want us to...

The fact that the whole entire world is watching what we decide to do and is gauging their actions accordingly.

If our enemies perceive weakness...in other words, if they see that we do not strengthen our infrastructure by assisting mortgagees first, then that trickles up to strengthen the top...they will plan accordingly...

And true, much of this crises will come from a crises of confidence from foreign investors. What are they looking for to boost their confidence? Strength.. strength in our economy FROM THE FOUNDATION UP. American politicians may be playing dumb effectively, as if they don't know what kind of harm this gravy-bailout will do, but foreign investors passed basic mathematics in their better socialized schools...they will tell you that if the USA doesn't strengthen their infrastructure from the ground up, the USA is going to be up dookie creek without a paddle...instead of the other way around.

The French revolution matches our situation exactly. King Louis the whatever plunged his country into recession from excessive and unecessary foreign war campaigns. When the country, predictably, fell into financial crises, he convened a panic assembly of representatives to placate the masses. They promised bailouts for their Mainstreet at the time, but factually delivered only nice packages for the rich folk at the expense of the poor. The country then crumbled from the foundation up. Riots and looting, in other words anarchy, became the new rule of law. And in the end...well...

"Heads will roll" is not just a saying...

The world will see if the GOP sticks the final gaff in the dying body. If they do, they will descend like vultures. If they shore up Mainstreet at the expense of Wallstreet, it will show foresight, strength and intellect. Our standing in the world will rise and investors, instead of soldiers, will descend on our markets again to either bolster us back up to our former glory or defeat us in the final chapter of the history of the United States of America.

What does McCain know about banking?

I thought he was in oven chips

This banking crisis has been in the making for a long long time. McCain said that the overregulation of the banking industry would lead to just such a situation as this. So the answer to your question is that he knew enough to predict this.

The clinton admin and democratic congressmen before that even created the requirement that banks lend to people who were bad credit risks or face hefty government fines - so they did lend to poor credit risks.

Then the Bush admin comes along and they reduce just a little of the overregulation. It makes the banking industry stronger but unfortunately it still runs into serious problems.

And the best part is that since he (McCain) was right the mainstream media is going to take a more recent quote of his and spin it to mean the exact opposite.

Recently he said:

"Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation."

It is just too bad that they did not remove the requirement to lend to people with poor credit. It is too bad that the banks still are having problems. McCain was right. We did need to open up the banking industry even more. It is just a shame we did not listen to him back then when we still had time.

McSame was just being a big coward not wanting to debate. What he really wanted was to move this Friday's debate to take the place of the VP debate because Caribou Barbie is even more clueless!

PLEASE EVERYBODY WATCH HER WITH KATIE COURIC TONIGHT AND YOU'LL SEE FOR YOURSELVES HOW EMPTY SHE IS. Couric was just shaking her head in disbelief that anyone running for VP could know nothing about her running mates record and just keep babbling ridiculous meaningless rhetoric.

It is must see TV if you have any doubts how failed she really is.

And it looks like the Democrats got their oversight, no golden parachutes for executives, a taxpayer's stake and safeguards for the taxpayers they wanted and not just the blank check with ZERO oversight or review the Republican administration originally tried to slip through. OH! and they're starting off at $250 Billion instead of $700 Billion to see how much this really does help.

Democratic Committee Leaders Chris Dodd and Barney Frank could not have been more impressive in their handling of this.

McCain's erratic grandstanding did him no good... as expected things were worked out just fine without him. Senator Obama will get to have a nice Nationally televised Town Hall Meeting if old John can't sack up and debate. LOVE IT!:D

McCain wasn't ready for a real debate anyway and so he's trying another hail Mary like picking the totally unqualified Palin just because she had a vagina.

And the reason Obama was chosen was because of WHAT? Do you think that if he had been white he would have been chosen? Give me a break.

Both sides play politics with the ignorance of the people. Don't blame the candidates because Americans are so insipid as to vote for a sex or a race. If you think that isn't the case, you're nuts.
