Michael Phelps!

You're piling stupidity upon stupidity. First, the claim that "every race is a medal race" is idiotic - the preliminary heats, which determine if you even get to race in the medal race, aren't awarded medals. All other types of events work the same way - other than heats, every running race is a medal race, every rowing event is a medal event.

"hostile crowd"? As if the chinese weren't a hostile crowd.

"tarnished" medal? YOU are the only one who thinks so, and your opinion counts for squat.

As for Jessie Owens, he won four gold medals - but many olympians have done that. A big deal is made out of him only because being black, he is a liberal icon.

Phelps is a great swimmer and the star of this Olympic games but the greatest Olympian is Jesse Owens. Owens achievements are still celebrated 70 years later. Will anybody even recognize the name of Michael Phelps 70 years from now? Just because Phelps won the most medals does not automatically make him the greatest Olympian. He has not only had access to the latest technology but also the unqualified support of his teammates and his country.

Things were far different for Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, which Hitler wanted to use as a stage to demonstrate the supremacy of the Aryan race. If you remember your history, there was a degree of racism then even in the US which Owens was representing. Against all odds, he won four golds in the 100m, the 200m, the long jump and the 4x100m relay. A feat that was not equaled until 1984 by Carl Lewis and even then it was a boycott year.

To compare the crowd in Beijing with that of Hitler and Nazi Germany is just another ridiculous statement on your part. To claim Owens is nothing but a "liberal icon" shows how little you know. Owens achievements are belittled by many on the right for what I can only assume is that he wasn't the right color. One has to wonder how many of those same people would feel if Phelps was black.

Just for your information the British Olympic Committee have invited Phelps to London next week to officially hand over the Olympic Games from Beijing to London for 2012!....sorry Popeye

Have they started building the olympic venues yet? Where will everything be?
