What exactly is racist about the Joker? I have no idea but it was not racist when Vanity Fair did a cartoon of President George W. Bush as the Joker. Now it is racist if someone does the same about obama...

Bush as Joker compliments of Vanity Fair!

Oh so funny!

Pan, I guess they can claim it is racist because it is, first of all, something that mocks PBO. The double standard is, as usual, present and obvious. But it will be something that will be denied vehemently.

Additionally, there is the claim of racism because by utilizing the Joker in the parody, it requires "white" face, changing PBO's skin color. It stretches credulity, but not to those who want to make their brain-dead claims.

The white paint makes it racist? Really?

Does that mean obama cant be a mime either?

I really don't see it as racist at all. This particular Joker was different than the other Joker's in the bat man story...Not that I think another Joker would have been racist and this one isnt. I don't think dressing him up as a joker is any more racist than dressing him up as a clown or mime.

I think this style of joker was picked because it was more about the kind of person the joker was in this last batman..

If this mocks obama and that is bad, wasn't it mocking President Bush too? No one said it was bad then. I am not very good with double standards.

Perhaps I have become numb to what racist things are. I have been called a racist because I did not vote for obama and because I do not like his policy's. No one called me racist when I did not vote for John F. Kerry (who served in Vietnam) and I did not vote for him for the same reasons.

the same act on one race vs a different one can change its meaning and show more racism behind it.

Burn a cross in a white mans yard....
Burn a cross in the black mans yard....

there is a historical and cultural meaning to it far more for a black then a white...

Hang a noose from a tree in my yard....
Hang a noose from a tree in a black mans yard...
I would find no racism in the one in my yard...but the one in the black yard would have clear racial meaning based on its history.

Put a Swastika in my yard
Put one in a Jewish Persons yard...
I am kinda confused as to why there is one in my yard....I am a white and not Jewish and not a commmie, and not gay, and not.....basicly I am pretty much what a nazi would want in a person...outside the whole racist idiot nazi part lol
The Jewish person...its a clear racial attack and has deep powerful meaning behind it.

With that in mind, a black man i white face could be seen in a different way though I think its still a over reaction...But there is at least more possible racial overtones to it then a white man with white face on as the joker.

I see what you are saying but I really do not agree making him the joker was racist.

When Ted Danson painted his face black at some dinner party with Whoopie, I was not sure what to make of it, some people were really mad at him, I think he cared about Whoopie and was not trying to insult her or her race or do something racist but some say he was.

Who ever did this joker thing I dont think the fact that obama is half black was part of the reason why he did it or she did it.

But I do think the constant charge of racism from the obama people is only hurting race relations. It used to be that when someone complained another person was racist or did a racist thing, I listened, got involved, tried to help the situation. These days I roll my eyes and ask well give me an example.

The word "racist" has been so over used since obama came to the spot light that its almost like the boy who cried wolf.

But I do get your point

I was watching CNN last night and their guest had the gall to claim that those who are opposing the health care plan are doing so with racists rhetoric.

I have seen a dozen or so mainstream complaints about obamacare and not a one of them has been racists. It was incredulous to watch it play out on national tv for all to see.

I think they are getting desperate and will right now play the race card at any and all opportunities.

like I said, I agree on this one they went to far and I dont think it was the intent.

also I truly do think there is a lot of racism behind some of the stuff, I was amazed personaly when he was running and more after he won, how many racist things I heard people say, from people I would not have expected it. And dont forget how much of the " racist" stuff comes from the right, with all the Glen becks crying Obama hates white people. Yelling his church was racist, and yelling his wife is racist.....

and the screams of terrorist, off with his head, hes not a american, he is a secret muslim....it all plays on the idea that he is not "one of us" and its realy easy to see underline race issues in it...even if some are just radial nut jobs who would belive anything just becuse he is a Dem.

I have not watched CNN in a while but it sounds like something they would do.

I think race relations are getting worse, much worse and its things like this that are doing it.

In the last 2 weeks I have heard racist things said by people who are upset with obama. In one case its someone who voted for him but is now really unhappy. In other cases its people who voted for him but never spoke like that before.

But like I said in the post to Dr. Who, I think race relations are getting worse, much worse.

How about hanging people? It's all part of the Lunatic Right's game.

Teabaggers hang MD Congressman in effigy

Jul 29, 2009

Last week, Ben Smith posted a link to a conference call between Jim DeMint and a bunch of TeaBaggers who are determined to block any real health care reform. Listen in for a few moments and you'll understand just how determined these guys are to cause trouble.

Party officials have been hearing of plans for protests and disruptions at district offices in the coming weeks, and it looks like they weren't just rumors. These protesters are serious and they've already hung one of our Maryland Dems in effigy.

Anti-health care protesters hang freshman Democrat in effigy.
A group called "Patients First," a project of the lobbyist-funded Americans for Prosperity, has been going around the country and hosting tea parties in opposition to "government-run health care."

This is all they are. A bunch of bused in thugs & crazed hecklers. They lost so now they don't want anybody to here about the plan... they don't want to ask questions... they just want to disrupt the events. NICE!

This is an old Klan tactic now being used by bused in Republicant thugs. Didn't work then... won't work now!

The word "racist" has been overused and misused for a long time now, much like words like "liberal" "conservative", and my personal favorite: "socialist."

Now that we have a president who is half black, it is inevitable that there will be some who call attention to themselves by leaping, hooting, and repeating "racist" every time the president is lampooned for something.

We may as well get used to it, and learn to ignore it.

Is this new freshman congresman black? I can see a bit of problem if he is black. It was not that long ago that black people were hung by mobs if the mob thought they did something.

I didnt read the story but I from the little I saw, I understand what they are trying to say to the freshman, vote for this health bill and we will vote you out, you will basicly be dead as a poltician. but its not a very good thing to do with the hanging them.

I understand the people are mad, I am mad as hell but we should not hang people or put them in electric chairs, we should do lots of calling and letter writing to say what we want and if they do not do what we want then we should vote them out

Yes I agree its all over used. But I disagree with you in that I dont think you agree we are currently heading further into socialism, I think we are. But yes the word is over used as is racist.

I am conservative and proud of it. If I were liberal (and I used to be) I would be proud of it. I think its odd that liberals hate being called liberals and conservatives are very proud to say what they are.

Some strange people are proud to be called socialist too...

You really don't think it's right to "hang" other Americans of any color just because they're on different sides of a debate.

I remember you being wildly upset about a Palin effigy hanging as a Halloween prank. This is MUCH worst! This is threatening our elected officials in office with violence.

This stuff really shows the lengths of lunacy that these tea bagger groups go to when they know they are losing and just want to delay, delay, delay needed Health Insurance Reform that the American people really want badly.
