We torture as a means to an end. Such as getting information etc... which could potentially save lives.

Fanatics do not really torture people like we do, but when they do, its a means to an end, such as saving the lives of their own, or getting them out of a prison etc...


There is no real difference, from each one's point of view it makes perfect sense to do what is being done.
