Newt's 21st Century 'Contract With America'

...

What gives you this idea that he wants to make America anymore Christian?

Because when people speak about making God central to the government, they typically mean THEIR God. It is impossible to have all religions represented by a government centered around God.
And even if not specifically Christian, he is truly devising a system to alienate and marginalize atheist, agnostics, and humanists.

Java, while I agree to a point. YVO does make a good point on the previous page, I am one who thinks my creator(s) are my parents, and nothing more, nothing less. I think he should drop the whole premise of using the term creator and even better is to let another GOP candidate with a chance use his little scheme he has devised as it wont do him much good. I think I can safely say that the American people are tired of him and his ways and it would be wise for him to join up as a VP candidate with maybe Tommy Thompson as his best chance to be back in the game.

I'd like to get to everyone else's comment but as for Coyote's consistent "how" question -- he wrote a book called Winning the Future in which he details exactly how he would implement these initiatives.

He has grand ideas, but more importantly, he knows how he would implement said ideas which is why I like him so much. So he's a lying hypocrite. Who in politics isn't? He has ideas for how to restore this country to greatness.

I would much rather elect powerless politicians with no ideas at all who were honest than those with grand ideas and the know-how and experience to get them done who were dishonest.

Politician 1: Lying: Don't worry I'll take care of you.

Politician 2: truthful: I don't know what to do but I'll try my best.

Why? Just because he thinks we should all undergo the transformation of America into the Christian country of its mythic past so that we can forgive him for his heartless delivery of divorce papers to his dying wife to keep his mistress's child from being born a bastard?
Hopefully his father's own brand of bastardism isn't hereditary.

Nothing quite like the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party.

I don't see the word Christianity. Go back and read vyo's post on the first page.

Based on who Newt is and the climate in America, Coyote is right to assume that this would be the Christian God. He may (doubtful) end up being wrong but it is a logical assumption.

I won't be supporting stong religious policy as a part of our government. Religious influence belongs in politics but needs to come from the people in a way that does not impose it on the non-religious. The ring of what was said in Newt's contract seems more like it would be an imposition as opposed to just an example of religious people having the same voice that anyone else has.

I guess it's a fair assumption to make that Newt would be referring to making America more Christian, but I have read his last 3 books and seen a couple of his speeches so I know what he's talking about.

This position is designed to resist the removal of God and the Creator from the public square by the ironically named ACLU and their followers. As I've said here numerous times, the presence and acknowledgement of the Creator is what allows for the power to reside with the people, who then loan it to the government.

It is also important to remember the importance of God in the history of this country. In our most trying times (Civil War and WW2), God was prominently called upon by our Presidents as a figure of guidance and support.

I can never understand why the ACLU is the bogeyman of the Christian right - it totally baffles me because when you do a search of ACLU cases you find tons of them in support of Christian rights - the right to preach in the public square, baptize in a public park, bring a bible to school and on and on and on.

It makes no sense. The only thing I can come up with is the Christian political right wants to have their cake and eat it too.

First of all, I'm not part of the so-called "Christian right" primarily because I'm not Christian.

Anyway, the reason is because the ACLU has also made people take down nativity scenes at Christmas time off their front lawns and forced towns to take down their crosses, etc.

Not to mention, they were founded on an admittedly socialist agenda.
