We do not have socialized medicine, we have universal health insurance with deductibles, and co-pays. The economically challenged are still screwed.

Don't forget about the brand new tax on tanning salons. We have that now too.

Yippeee!!! That's going to be really going to be beneficial.

Duh, am I the only one who gets the emails about how Obama is going to send illegal immigrants to our houses to take away our AR-15s?
You know they want to put a serial number on every bullet we buy right.

Typical. No real response to being called to the floor over the often inaccurate and overblown claims by the right. Just throw something else out and scream look! Then point a different direction.

Chestnut, do you spend much time under the lights? Or do you prefer the spray on?

How often do you use them? Such a tax is about as innocuous as it gets. It only effects those who are stupid enough to irradiate them selves.

I don't. I just think we should all hae a choice if we want to without govt trying to "tax" us from doing it.

IMHO it seems like a farily "race based" tax, because the vast majority of people using tanning beds are not dark skinned people but ... let's all say it together - White people.

So really this is a tax on white people.

Yes, I heard that argument on rant radio, too.

The tax is a tax on skin cancer, actually, which is something we whities are more likely to get than are our more swarthy brethren.

If you want to discourage something, tax it. Isn't that a good principle? Taxing income = discouraging people from making money. That doesn't seem to be such a good idea, yet it is the only way we've found to fund government. Taxing skin cancer, taxing tobacco, taxing the use of imported oil, are all ways of discouraging what should be discouraged.

Now, let's rewrite the title of this thread and see if we can come up with the obvious error it contains:

Now that we have a perfectly rational society, what do we do next?

The error contained is that.........(fill in the blank)

We interrupt your enjoyment of the diversions you have created, for a brief visit back to the original subject of the thread.

Now that we have Socialized Medicine, what do we need next? Democrats are facing a disaster in November unless they do something before then, to replace the votes they lost by pushing the vastly unpopular Socialized Medicine program and ramming it through despite massive protest from the American people.

What are the chances they will resume their once-defeated attempt to provide amnesty and citizenship to the 15+ million illegal aliens who have already crashed our borders? Aliens who will mostly vote for the Democrats who legitimized their illegal acts?

Keep in mind that the only thing these 15+ million illegal aliens have in common, is a demonstrated desire to break U.S. law to get what they want. These are the people the Democrats proposed to allow into the country. While the people who followed the rules, applied for visas, green cards, and are patiently waiting their turn in respect to our laws, are kept out.

P.S. Republicans, prepare to be called "racist" yet again, for asking that our laws be enforced.

We now return you to your irrelevant diversions of pretending our new Socialized Medicine is somehow "not socialist enough" to deserve the name.

I see. So, you think that the Obama administration is going to start pushing something like the McCain/Kennedy bill, or perhaps the amnesty bill that was signed into law by President Reagan in the mid '80s? Why do you think that?

Why don't we tax people for being "GAY". They cause a lot of money in AIDS and HIV expenses.

Do you think we can discourage people from being gay? Maybe we could tax having straight hair as well. Discourage people from being born that way, and we could save a ton on permanents.
