This is a moment similar to where the country was in 1976, when another largely untested idealist won Iowa's Democratic caucus. The nation, discombobulated by Watergate, was ready to turn to a born-again Baptist who believed the world could be a more moral place. At the time, Jimmy Carter was the face of the New South. When inaugurated as Georgia's governor in 1971, he proclaimed the dawning of a new day. "I say to you quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination is over," Carter said. He went on to streamline Georgia's government, while opening opportunities for women and blacks. He imbued his presidential campaign with equally high expectations. "For America's third century, why not our best?" he asked. But he foundered in office and was turned out after one term with an approval rating of 34 percent, having laid the ground for the Reagan Revolution.

Of course all your being fed is garbage about how closely this election mirrors the 1980 election, garbage because the pundits are comparing Obama to Reagan in that election:

the argument basically being that the country was unhappy with Jimmy Carter then; the country is unhappy with George Bush now.

Carter was the INCUMBANT in that race and George Bush is not running against Obama - so the propaganda machine has to paint McCain as Bush to pull it off. Slight problem...

Obama is running way behind the Democratic Party brand and McCain is certainly running better than Republicans, largely because he is perceived as more of a maverick than a Bush Republican.

So that leaves the question:

are Americans ready to vote for idealism over hard-edged realism, for hope over experience?

The comparison between Reagan and Obama fail because Obama is much closer to Carter on policy and rhetoric than Reagan and the only thing Ron and Barry have in common is their ability to communicate.

Unlike Obama:

• Reagan was an Actor in the public eye for 50 years before becoming president.
• Reagan ran for president 3 times before winning the nomination and the presidency.
• Reagan told Americans they should be proud of their country NOW, and not after he was elected.
• Reagan, even with all his popularity, never tried to design his own Presidential logo.

Reagan also never got protection from terrorist organizations...

According to security officials coordinating deployments of forces with the PA for Obama's Ramallah visit, members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah's declared military wing, have been called upon by the PA to participate in the protection of Obama, particularly in securing the perimeter during a scheduled meeting with PA President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Brigades is listed as a terror organization by the U.S. State Department. The group took credit along with the Islamic Jihad terror organization for every suicide bombing in Israel between 2005 and 2006 and is responsible for thousands of shootings and rocket firings. Statistically, the Al Aqsa Brigades perpetuated more terrorism from the West Bank than Hamas, according to the Israeli Defense Forces.

JERUSALEM – Palestinian brothers inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are listed in government election filings as having donated $29,521.54 to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

Donations of this nature would violate election laws, including prohibitions on receiving contributions from foreigners and guidelines against accepting more than $2,300 from one individual during a single election, Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the Federal Election Commission, told WND in response to a query.
