Yea, when income taxes were first debated it was said that the only people who would ever pay them were the top something percent. Well since then they have been applied to everyone then only some then, well there is endless debate about just where the final rate will end up. Kind of makes politicians really important to be doing all that debating;)

In the end we would be better off with no or very little income tax and funds should be raised in other ways. And if we do have income tax then they should be applied to every single american at exactly the same rate. That is the only fair way to do it - unless you think McDonalds should charge some people a dollar for a hamburger and other people eight. (now I am curious; if mcd charged 50% of the people nothing for a big mac how much would the 2% have to pay for a big mac to make up for it?)

So yes the pubs should stand for what is right rather than what they have been doing too long. Wonder why they lose votes? Could it be that by caving they prove they have no principles?

They should not agree to anything other than a continuation of the present rate but would be willing to reduce rates on the rich if dems want that. Then they should write a clean bill (a rarity in washington), a one page bill (another rarity) that simply states that the present tax rates should stay the same and they should all sign it and turn it over to the dems to sign. Then when we go over the cliff/hill they can simply point out that they signed the bill stopping the cliff and it was the dems who refused.

Raising taxes but not addressing the spending is a joke. Obummer wants taxes raised, which will only cover 8 days of what the government spends, and was willing to cut 40 billion a year in spending. What a joke. He also wants an additional 35 billion a year for ten years in a new stimulus and for congress to give him the power to increase the debt limit.

It's obvious to me that he isn't serious about the budget and intends to continue on this destructive path. He also is campaigning to drive a stake through the Republican party and blame them for the outcome for the upcoming 2014 election.
