I saw an analogy today that is akin to this situation.

For example, we say that speeding will not happen under the current legislation. However, in that same bill we take away police radar guns and police cars.

In this bill, an amendment to make people prove citizenship was voted down on party lines. Why?

so you want anyone who wants health care to have to prove they are a citizen? this from the same party that a large amount of its members still dont think Obama has proven his....maybe to keep the right happy you will your drivers licence, birth cirtificate ( cirtificate of live birth of course not counted) newpapers showing your birth anouncement.....

under what you are talking about, the right wing nuts would not give health care to the President of the US if he did not have his own health care plan.

aslo there is the inherent issue that this will only be applied to anyone who is not white.....if same rules where applied to upper middle class whites, I bet you hear them cry about how its to much paperwork and hassle to go to the DR and prove they are a american citizen each time...


fact is under current system if they had major health issue, they would get coverage as well...and you would pay for it. while the bill ( and there are more then a few bills) may not say does not cover illegals , it also does not say it covers them. yes there may be ways for them to still get it, but guess what no system is going to prevent that. forged documents are easy to get, and do you realy want the hospital running full background checks on evry person that walks in? it does not work to keep them from getting jobs, and its not going to work to stop them from getting health care if they realy want it.

so can we focus on the millions and growing Citizens with out health care, or without enough health care...and not so much on what illegals may or may not do...I am fine with saying they cant have it, but I also know no matter some will get it.

This claim of coverage for illegal immigrants has been repeated in viral emails and even in a press release by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), among other places.

SEC. 152. PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTH CARE.

(a) In General- Except as otherwise explicitly permitted by this Act and by subsequent regulations consistent with this Act, all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services.

Now, one could see how “personal characteristics” could be interpreted as covering one’s immigration status… unless you kept reading to Section 246:

H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

This is a mindless rant. You could simply give a social security number that could be checked to make sure it is real and provide an ID to show you are that person. Whole process could take 5 minutes.

What we ought to be focusing on is not the people without healthcare, but rather the uninsurable. That number is actually quite low.

Is this the best you've got? Why don't you put the REST of the information supplied by OpenSecrets.org? What, because a politician, ANY politician has received donations from industry components they should just shut up and not participate in discussions regarding potential legislation for that issue? Please say that's not what you think.

Actually, that might be a good idea. They they could all just close up shop and go home. Washington DC could be a ghost town in nothing flat!

Back to the issue at hand: For example, you cite the American Hospital Association as one of Wilson's top contributors (per OpenSecrets.org.). Okay, let's see exactly what that is. And for simplicity, we'll just stick with the 2010 cycle:
- Wilson has received $7,000 from them.
- Pelossi has received $10,000 from them.
- As for the "top contributors (top 20) ranking, a total of 20 Republicans have received contributions, as opposed to 57 Democrat, contributions for individual candidates ranging from $1,000 on the low end to about the $10,000 high Pelossi received.

There are many more details like this let these suffice.

I'm not disputing that your facts, or those OpenSecrets.org, are inaccurate. I'm just disputing whether the political connections formed through financial support networks is necessarily a qualifying or disqualifying component. If that were the case, every Democrat (nearly) in Washington should recuse themselves from any issues and legislation even remotely connected with organized labor. There is more to this than simply the surface of the numbers.

And a side note to mention, that except for and until their recent opposition to government-controlled health care reform, the AMA, the ADA, and more of these groups have been cited and heralded by those now supporting reform. Because they are at odds on this issue, does that now disqualify everything in the past that they've held them as authorities on, and should be heeded? And will it again in the future when the dust settles on this?
