Many on the left would have you believe that the Republican Party is the party of Tyranny. That George W. Bush has some nefarious scheme to take over this country and subjigate the people. They claim that 911 was an inside job designed to place the country into a state of fear where upon he could take away the people's rights. They want to draw comparisons between the Reichstag fire in Berlin which was followed by mass killings, and roundups of dissidents of the new "Reich".

My question for you is....would it be more plausible in America for a "Hitler" type power grab to occur where the people are quickly subjigated? Or would it be more feasible for a slow but steady dillusion of the people's rights till one day the frog wakes up and he finds himself cooked in the boiling water?

How did Hitler grab power? He used the Democratic political system of Germany, combined with strong-arm tactics to gain a modest amount of power. He told the people what they wanted to hear, he promised them everything. He appealed to their fears of a people who were nationalists, a once proud nation now struggling with un-employment, inflation, and national security. Once he had been elected, he consolidated his power through intimidation, murder and mayhem.

Can conservatives follow this model and be successful? Is this really what George W. Bush has been doing as many on the left contend?

Personally I think all the hyperbole from the left is nothing but a smoke screen to destroy the Republican party by creating a state of fear amongst the people.

What would it take to impose tyranny on this country?

First, you need an ignorant people. This has been acheived with relatively good success. Government schools are dumbing down the masses till they have no reasoning skills, they don't understand Government, and most importantly they don't understand the Constitution.

Second, you need to dis-arm the people. The Founders recognized the dangers of Tyrannical government and gave provision to the people to arm themselves. This right was narrowly affirmed last week in a 5-4 vote. Four Supreme Court Justices thought that the people did not have a right to bear arms! This should be a wake-up call.

Third, Freedom of Speech must be controlled. There are several ways that this is being instituted in a slow, creeping loss to our Freedoms.

Hate-Speech laws are silencing a number of topics that the left disagrees with.
Political correctness limits areas of discussion for fear that people will be offended.
Suppression of free-flow of information on talk radio through the "Fairness Doctrine".
The Internet will be regulated through either taxation, or fairness, or some other ruse to take away the free-flow of ideas.
Finally, you need a closed and controlled political system in which the people have the illusion of picking leaders that represent themselves. Over the course of the last 50 years the two major parties have stacked the deck so that no one else can compete. The two parties have been moving towrds each other, while drifting further to the political left. Voting laws are structured, debates are structured, sound-bites are orchestrated, the whole system has failed the American people at finding the best candidate. It is structured to maintain power in the hands of the "Elites" on both ends of the spectrum.

I do not feel that we as a country are in danger of a quick power grab along the lines of Hitler. He had a private army, which no candidates or Presidents have currently. We have a people who are armed to the teeth, they did not. What I believe will happen is a slow generational destruction of what has made this country great. It will happen through the areas outlined above. It will be backed by "Elites" from both ends of the political spectrum, but perpetrated by the Democrats.

What has de-educated the American children for a generation? Liberal Democrat policies.

Who wants to take away your right to bear arms? Liberal Democrats.

Who wants to re-instate the "Fairness Doctrine" with the expressed purpose of silencing freedom of Speech and thus further contolling the ignorant masses? Liberal Democrats lead by Nancy Pelosi.

    I just finished reading:

I highly recommend everyone read this book as it describes what it was like to actually live in a time of tyrannical takeover.

    Here are some excerpts:

"A childish illusion, fixed in the minds of all the children born in a certain decade, and hammered home for four years can easily reappear as a deadly political ideology twenty years later."

    Of Heinrich Bruening Hitler predecesor:

"He was rather proud to be unpopular. He had successes. His successes could be described as 'operation successful, patient dead' and 'Position held, ranks decimated'. He brought the economy to the brink of collapse, six million people unemployed. The beginnings of the restriction of the Freedom of the press and gagging of Parliment could be traced to Bruening. paridoxically, his actions were rooted in the conviction that he was defending the Republic. His form of Government was a semi-dictatorship. He was the lesser of two evils. The repulsive Hitler was held off for two years. He (Hitler) promised everything to everybody, which naturally brought him a vast, loose army of followers, and voters from among the ignorant, the dissapointed, and the dissposessed."

Is this not a very startling desciption of what we are facing? I am not saying that Barrack Obama is Hitler, but the description of the circumstances of that time, and of the people's desire to rid themselves of an oppressive, failed leader lead them into the arms of a more oppressive leader. A Tyrant.

"The Nazi's claimed that the Reichstag fire was burned by the communists and that it was meant as a signal for a communist uprising. Only by swift, decisive actions did the Nazi's avert a communist takeover. With sheepish submissiveness the German people accepted the result of the fire. Each one of them lost what little personal freedom and dignity was guaranteed by the constitution, as though it followed as a necessary consequence."

    Patriot Act anyone?

"The whole tradition of a state based on the rule of law, to which generations of men like my father had devoted their lives and energies, which had seemed do firm and permenant, to disappear overnight."

The Supreme Court had four Justices that thought the constitution should be re-interpreted to de-arm Americans. When Barrack Obama is elected, what kind of judges will he place on the court? And the next time a case such as this appears before them, where will our arms go? Where will the Constitution go? Liberals do not like strict interpretaion of the Constitution, they want a living, breathing document that can be changed to fit their view of the world. If guns are taken from the citizens, how long will it be before the Federal Government uses its powers to subjigate the people?

"Emotions became less intense over the summer. the tension dropped. Even the feeling of disgust weakened. It was all covered by a narcotic cloud. For many who had to remain in Germany, it was a time of climitization with all its dangers."~summer 1933

This statement depicts the nature of people to go along and get along. Their freedoms were rapidly being taken away, and yet the people tried to just go about their business as if nothing remarkable was going on. They had concerns for their own lives and just wanted to ignore what was going on on a National level. The slow steady loss of Liberty was upon them.

"The red posters for the announcement of executions on the poster pillars every morning next to the Cinema programs and the posters for the summer restaurants. I did not even notice them anymore."

Do the American people even notice what is being taken from them? Do they care?

ok 2nd try, last one got lost in posting grrrr

Is the Republican party the party of Tyrany? no, but I would say there are strong Elements in it that would be, but no not the party itself.

Sept 11, it was not a inside job, and I find it insulting to the people who died on Sept 11 that so many believe in such dumb conspiracies...just today at work a customer was asking for a book on 911...we did not have it, but I suggested, The Looming Tower, and Threw our Enemies Eyes as good books to read...he said that's not what really happened...and went off of some Jewish Government Conspiracy where they used explosives and set them off ( no not when the wtc fell, but when the planes hit...but they screwed up and set them off a sec early on the 2nd hit...this is as dumb of a theory as I have heard, I tried hard not to ***** the dude out) Also its not a Liberal idea the conspiracy nut jobs are on both sides , and from I have found, about in even levels...So don't try to pin this on the left. ( I also love that is was done so we can invade Iraq...yet they planned it all.,,,and have nothing at all to tie to Iraq,...what sense would that make.

Could it happen here? of course, with the right time and setting it is possible. I would not say likely in any near Future I see. But who knows what events could fall on us. The patriot act was a great example, as was the blind run into Iraq. People had no clue what they where giving away, what powers they gave the government, all they knew was they wanted there Security Blanket.

What power does the Constitution have if it is Ignored? Zero, so there is no reason to think it cant happen just because a piece of paper says it should not.

I am pro gun, fine with Conceal and Carry, but do ask for checks to make sure Criminals and others do not get them. Also I don't think any amount of the population buying and owned hand guns and stuff will ever do any good at all to protect itself from the US Government. We would be wiped out in min if they wanted. Armed or not. Only a Full or Partial Military coup would save us, where at least some Units stood up and sided with the people against the Government. I would have more faith in the Army stopping our Government then our own people, just based on firepower and knowing that most in the Army would be against the type of actions a government would have to take to require us to need to be armed against them.

Slow boil would be needed to set the groundwork,,,and most likely ended with some Great event that put all the pieces in place. The population is dumb and easy to trick so it would not be hard on that level, and its only getting worse. But so long as there is still some Economy and school system its not likely to be able to hold up. Corporations like Stability, and would fear to great of a change and have to great a hold on the leaders.

Of course tyranny could happen here... it did in fact. Tyranny to me is the very moment that the laws suddenly apply to everyone but those in power. The moment one group has a free pass over the rule of law, we have tyranny.

8 years ago, a man was found in obvious violation of law. He committed felony offenses and ample evidence made it provably so. However, when he was tried for his crimes, his defenders never questioned that he broke law, and committed felony offenses, yet said that the crimes committed were not important, and he was let go.

Captain Underpants, was in fact the closest thing America has had to a sitting dictatorship, because he did whatever he wanted, lawful or not, and was allowed to completely skirt the law. Can it happen here? Yes, in fact, it did.

Clinton's legacy will be an ever growing ability of presidents to violate law without repercussions.

Just cant give up lame attacks on Clinton can you? I never liked him, never voted for him, but really you guys are just lame in your pathetic cries and attempts to slander him. Worst Abuse of Power in his whole 8 years, was the Republicans use of the Special Prosecutor to bascily have a 8 year Witch hunt on him , at tax payers cost. Clinton could get head from hookers on the white house lawn for all i care next to the crap Bush has done.

Doesn't the fact that four supreme court justices pissed on the 2nd amendment scare anyone to death? You are right that slick Willy set of a chain of events that will reverberate for years to come...but as I see it, both parties have lost touch with the people. It may not be in my lifetime, but this country is on a path of subserviance with few noticing or caring. You have half the country involved in partisan squabbles...Reups vs Demos...and the other half couldn't tell you who the Vice_President is...but could name the top twelve American Idol finalists.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic, I used to have great optimism for the future of this country...but with the close of the Reagan era...it has been a slow decline into political depression. McCain sucks, Obama sucks worse. Neither will address the true problems facing this country.

Yes it could happen here and perhaps some day it will. I don't see that day being close.

What is close is the erosion into socialism. Of course tyranny could come about through socialism as well as through capitalism.

Oddly enough our greatest friend is the divisiveness in this country. AS long as the left is afraid of the patriot act (even if it did not establish any particular power that did not already exist) and the military and government/corporate/religious entaglemnents and as long as the right is afraid of the watering down of the constitutional and the creep of socialism then someone will be battling against it at some time.

We need two parties or more to make sure that they don't accomplish too much. Surely whenever they cooperate and get things done they work against the people.

    ADOLF HITLER JOINED THE IMMORTALS

Adolf Hitler joined the immortals of history, as the wonderful National Socialist nemesis of the Marxists in Germany. Germany, thanks to Hitler is now the leading economic power in Europe; had Hitler not destroyed the Marxists in Germany, America could not have helped re-built Germany, as suggested by the fate of East Germany. And to Hitler America owes her victory in the Cold War against Marxist USSR.

Every perceptive American patriot clearly understands why President Ronald Reagan, representing America, paid the highest respects to Germany by visiting the famous Nazi cemetery at Bitburg. These notorious attempts by failed Marxists, Neo-Marxists, and Crypto-Neo-Marxists to revise the history of World War II are transparently self-serving political propaganda that makes fools only of themselves.

It has been BOTH parties that have slowly eroded the rights of all Americans. We now live in a nanny state, where everything is subject to interpretation by Americas lawyers. A country for the lawyers, by the lawyers. We just pick which group will have more impact.
pro or anti: gun control, abortion, church-state, etc. It's all about who's Ivy league trained lawyers do you want. It has been a slow erode of rights, but neither McCain or Obama will change the course total control by the government. It's just what do you want for them to go after next.

OBAMA UNITING AND PARADIGM SHIFTING IN THE AMERICAN CULTURAL WAR
Obama is uniting Blacks and Whites, Christians and Muslims, Kennedy Liberals and Reagan Conservatives; the Podhoretz Neo-Cons and the Leiberman Neo-Libs are screaming, “Crucify him!”; and the World is singing, “God Bless America”.

Lame is untrue. If it is true, then it isn't lame. I'm not even attacking really, just stating the facts.

Slander: a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report.

Err... nothing false about it. These are all documented facts.

    Witch hunt? Fact:
Number of individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes: 47
Number of these convictions during Clinton's presidency: 33
    Number of indictments/misdemeanor charges: 61
Number of congressional witnesses who have pleaded the Fifth Amendment, fled the country to avoid testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed: 122

The "witch hunt" turned up 47 "witches" then, with another 122 "witches" running for the hills, while 61 little "witches" had minor crimes. Never seen a witch hunt turn up so many.

And what crimes were Clinton associates convicted of?---

    Drug trafficking (3)
    racketeering, extortion, bribery (4)
    tax evasion, kickbacks, embezzlement (2)
    fraud (12)
    conspiracy (5)
    fraudulent loans, illegal gifts (1)
    illegal campaign contributions (5)
    money laundering (6)
    perjury, obstruction of justice. (1)

These "witches" are doing some pretty nasty stuff during this "witch hunt".

Oh really... so the John Huang / Charlie Trie Chinagate scandal where Clinton, through accepting donation and cash from the Lippo group, which was a cover for the Chinese military, which in turn Clinton ok'd the sale of high end Cray super computers to China, which were used to create nuclear weapons... that doesn't matter to you?

How about this, this was passed by Clinton despite it being reported to him that China was passing this Nuclear technology to Pakistan, and... Iran??

So tell me, does the legacy of having to deal with potential nuclear threat by Iran, and dealing with a nuclear power that has Al Qaeda operating in it's boarders... does any of this both you in the slightest?

Clinton was a million times the screw up Bush ever was. Tell me, how many terrorist attacks happened during Clinton and Bush? What's the score so far, 12 or something to 1? If Clinton had gotten Osama when those evil Saudis had offered him to us, there might not have been a 9/11. That's what you get for lamely supporting a felon.

So either you agree that Clinton was sad, pathetic crap, or you can't answer a single point so you made an empty pointless statement. Not sure which it is.

Really? It seems Clinton had a golf outing with Enron CEO in the late 90s, where he was given a very large 'donation', and then promptly greased the skids on a nuclear power plant deal in India. A deal the Indian government did not want, and refused to pay for which led to the Enron collapse a few years later.

Or how about the traitor, rich, tax evading Marc Rich, who was pardoned after a specific woman gave Clinton thousands in 'donations', and now we find out he was the middle man for the Oil (gasp!) for Food UN scandal.

But none of what I just said was directly tied to Clinton? Not exactly.
How did monks at a Buddhist Temple, who take a vow of poverty, each pony up $5,000 for a total of $140,000? Oddly, the fundraiser organizer was John Huang, who was part of the Lippo group, and has connections with the Chinese military.

    Or how about this photo:
Note the personal response from Hillary?

This is, of course Captain Underpants, meeting with Bernard Schwartz, a donor at the time, and chairman of Loral, a defense contractor for the Chinese military. No scandal here, right?

In 1996, during a reelection bid, Mr. Schwartz was the DNC's largest sugar daddy at a tiny $1.5 Million in donations. Shockingly, in 1998, the sitting president, for completely unknown reasons, gave a blanket waiver to Loral, for the export of missile technology to China, which again was in turn exporting nuclear and missile technology to Iran and Pakistan.

Ironically, at the exact same time that C.U. president gave the waiver, Loral was under investigation by the justice department for violating restricted exports to China... how funny? I guess criminals take care of their own, eh?

So do tell how none of this directly involved Clinton? Can you answer any of this? Anything at all? Do try, it will humor me.
