Wasting billions of dollars in Afghanistan

You chose not to remember so why would I take the effort ?
Because there never was a clear objective in Afganistan, or we would have achieved it by now.

There was no clear objective in Iraq, nor in Vietnam, either.

The little Orwellian wars do not serve us well. War really is not peace after all.

We had objectives in Afghanistan. Afghanistan did not. Same with Iraq. Then No took over.
Vietnam had one to start but politicians pretending to be generals muddied that up.

The objective of the nation doing the invading didn't coincide with that of the nation being invaded? Go figure.

If the objective in Iraq was to get rid of Saddam Hussain, then that objective was met early on. If it was to make Iraq into a democracy, then that was building castles in the sky. If it was to help Iran by taking out their main enemy, then that was achieved as well. If it was to make the area safe for Al Qaeda, than we accomplished that one too.

Vietnam started out slow, then got bigger with the Gulf of Tonkien incident, which never really happened. The objective was to stop Communism from taking over SE Asia, which wasn't happening anyway. The result was millions of dead Vietnamese, thousands of dead Americans, thousands more with lifetime disabilities that overwhelm the VA, and a finally unified and peaceful Vietnam that should have existed back in 1954, had the US simply stayed home.

As noted you chose to not recall.

And make sure anyone we elect to power has studied the history of our role in Afganistan, in Iraq, in Vietnam, and understands the consequences of engaging in warfare around the world with no declaration of war and no commitment to win or even a clear idea of what "winning" would entail.

What is our objective in Afganistan, anyway, or is that classified?
The Great Game

Same stadium, different team. For 200 years, Afghanistan has been coveted as an outpost against the Russian Empire and a shield protecting India and Pakistan.

Oh. You meant that the objective in Afganistan was clear before Obama was elected. What was that objective again? I seem to have forgotten.
A Barnyard for Chickenhawks

The HeirGuardsman and Darth Evader, like the Willard of Oz and Paul RINO later, wanted to restart the Cold War against Russia and China.

And, what do you choose to recall about the objectives of those undeclared and limited Orwellian wars?
Remember it was democrats that decided to ignore the rules that they rewrote regarding rules. The goals of Vietnam went unpublished but were generally to protect business interests.
As to the others. They were published and available to all.

How Much Did Gasoline Cost During the Clinton Administration?

Because Saddam was overproducing and driving down Big Oil's obscene profit margins, he had to be removed under any pretext that would fly. Mission accomplished.

If it was the Democrats who ignored the rules, then it must be OK, right?

If they were published and available to all, then you should have no trouble stating your interpretation of them.

Wouldn't it have been a lot easier and cheaper just to shut down a few refineries "for maintenance?"
