First they bring the long knives out for Thomas Jefferson now Yale is shunning John C Calhoun.
These guys are very significant figures in our history and to toss them aside like they were nothing is just silly.
Didn't think Yale would ever get seen as silly. Guess I was c wrong there.

He just wore out his welcome...
Salovey said: “This principal legacy of Calhoun — and the indelible imprint he has left on American history — conflicts fundamentally with the values Yale has long championed. Unlike other namesakes on our campus, he distinguished himself not in spite of these views but because of them.”
A group of advisers asked to consider the issue unanimously concluded that the name should be changed, and the Yale Corporation voted Friday in agreement.

Stripping his name off a building I gather. Among the many notable alums there he was a big deal. Twice VP under different presidents, sec state, sec def, senatir, congressman etc.

He was still a racist. Personally I think people are too thin skinned these days, and use every opportunity to remind themselves of wrongs done, not to them, but to their ancestors. Being part Native American, German, Irish, and male, I don't have enough time to be offended by all the wrongs done to "me".

Lincoln was a racist, don't see people wanting to disown him.

Washington certainly owned slaves, and Jefferson had a nice slave family. The past is the past, and just happened. The real question is why people feel the need to admire some of the persons whom they'd detest today. Comes of this 'Consitution' religion, I suppose.
