The Height of Stupidity

Muslims celebrate 1,000 years of Muslim barbarism, blacks celebrate famous blacks who were good as well as blacks who were bad like O.J. Simpson, Michael Brown, and George Floyd. What do I care if Muslims wear garments or emblems honoring bloody Muslim terrorists, and what do I care if blacks want to honor ungodly blacks? If descendants of Civil War heroes still mourn their dead and continue to display emblems of the past in that regard what is the problem? Why should blacks demand that Southerners or Muslims or anyone else stop observing relics of the past? Leave them alone. Nobody should be trying to force blacks to slander the memories of blacks who were evil and there is little point in driving wedges in societies that have such diversity, and which is supposed to welcome and protect diversity.

You are a despicable, typical, ignorant fundie racist, which is why you have no empathy for the horrid mess cuaused by your slaveholding ancestors.

I am not aware of any slave-owners in my family tree, but I have heard that Obama had slave-owning ancestors, Kamala had slave-owning ancestors, as did hundreds of other leading politicians. So what? What current mess are we dealing with that was allegedly caused by all these slave-owning ancestors of modern politicians?

In researching the genealogies of America’s political elite, a Reuters examination found that a fifth of the nation’s congressmen, living presidents, Supreme Court justices and governors are direct descendants of ancestors who enslaved Black people.

Among 536 members of the last sitting Congress, Reuters determined at least 100 descend from slaveholders. Of that group, more than a quarter of the Senate – 28 members – can trace their families to at least one slaveholder.

Those lawmakers from the 117th session of Congress are Democrats and Republicans alike. They include some of the most influential politicians in America: Republican senators Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Tom Cotton and James Lankford, and Democrats Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Duckworth, Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan.

In addition, President Joe Biden and every living former U.S. president – except Donald Trump – are direct descendants of slaveholders: Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and – through his white mother’s side – Barack Obama. Trump’s ancestors came to America after slavery was abolished.

The thing is, you are the one claiming that waving the Confederate flag, keeping the names of Confederate generals on US military bases and not removing statues honoring defenders of slavery.

I see no reason to start destroying monuments and memorials of old American leaders now after Obama began fundamentally destroying American traditions and values dating back sometimes hundreds of years.

The Confederate generals were TRAITORS to our country, just a the Nazis were traitors to Germany. Every one of them supported slavery and all the cruelty and injustice that accompanied it. Their actions were DISHONORABLE and they did not merit statues or honoring them by naming military bases in their honor.

Obama's ancestors supported slavery, as did the ancestors of the majority of current politicians, both democrats and republicans. Democrats and republicans had steep differences on slavery, but I do not believe the modern democrats are right to declare the democrats of a hundred years ago were all traitors. Would you have had the republicans execute all the democrat traitors after the Democrat War to preserve slavery? Not me. I support wiser policies that encouraged healing between the political camps and making concessions between the disagreeing parties for the sake of unity and peace. I am not in favor of condemning modern descendants for views their ancestors may have held hundreds of years ago.
