43 years ago today, on July 18, 1969, Senator Edward "Teddy" Kennedy (D-MA) hosted a party on Chappaquiddick Island. He left the party early with a woman named Mary Jo Kopechne. His car was found the next day, upside-down under water next to Dike Bridge, with Kopechne's drowned body inside.

Kennedy said later he had made a wrong turn and drove off the bridge. He did not explain why he did not report the incident to police, nor sought help from a nearby lighted house. Kennedy never did any jail time or pay any other substantial penalty.

Is this not an example of how the rich and famous receive a different form of justice than the rest of us? I'd like to think that if this happened today, Fat Teddy would have at least faced manslaughter charges. But, maybe not.

Where were the folks on the left who hate it when the rich and famous get away with breaking the law?
