1. A report found 94 per cent of Native American women living in Seattle say they have been raped or coerced into sex at least once in their lifetime.
The damning new report – from the Urban Indian Health Institute and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – is believed to be one of the first to examine the experience of native women living in an urban environment instead of on reservations.
Seventy-one per cent of native people live in city settings – making the report’s findings particularly noteworthy.
Out of the 148 women surveyed, 94 per cent said they had been raped or forced to have sex and 69 per cent claimed they experienced street harassment.
What’s more, 86 per cent reported they suffered from historical trauma – a term which refers to the idea trauma from colonisation and historical oppression gets passed down from one generation to another.....
Ms Lucero said colonisation also spurred the dehumanisation of indigenous women – forging a “culture where women are less valued and thought of as property”.....

2. With regard to the ongoing systematic raping of native women, the US authorities should allow independent observers into the country to carry out immediate investigations. Reports of systematic rapes and sexual abuses against native women are deeply disturbing to the international community. The US authorities should be warned of the serious consequences of their past and ongoing genocides against the natives.
