A shocking new independent poll puts the longest-serving member of House – in history – down four points in his Michigan district to a cardiologist who has never before run for any elected office.

Democrat Rep. John Dingell, 84, the only sitting member of Congress who was elected when a veteran of the Civil War was still alive, who is battling for his 28th consecutive re-election, is losing in a poll for the first time against Republican candidate Rob Steele.

What's wrong with the dems in Michigan? Do they have a problem re-electing someone who won't be alive to suffer under whatever policies he decides to vote for, if he can stay awake long enough to do it? What's with that?

OMG! I thought the title meant the pres was doing a Clinton with some intern. It's just about an 84 year old representative who may lose his seat. How disappointing.

I doubt ANY intern is that desperate, or has that iron clad a stomach. Will it make you "tingle" to know that Obam-ba's bouncy balls are getting in a bind as he sees his power base dissolve?

The only thing that would make me "tingle" would be if the federal government were to balance the budget, put an end to illegal immigration, and get us out of the Middle East without leaving civil wars behind. If that were to happen under the leadership of Barack Obama, I'd tingle. If it were to happen after the Republicans regain power, I'd tingle. The tingling would be accompanied by, "OMG! I thought it would never happen."

Right now, I don't think it will ever happen, regardless of which party is in power.

It might. Never, is never what you think it is.....

We can start by getting rid of the antique senators who are no longer relevant, and have less to lose in the reality of their lives relative to legislation they engage in that affects every American. It isn't a "party" that has power.

It's people within the party, who attain power because of their affiliations, and misuse it for their own personal financial or egotistical benefit.

The answer isn't even term limits. If a Congress person knows they can only serve two terms it will affect the way they vote, because they won't have to answer for it down the road. If Congress knows that America will kick them out of their ivory tower at the drop of a pin, regardless of whatever "good" deed they may have done in the past, then we will have leverage.

There are too many Congress people that have been lifers. That needs to change, period.

The problem is with your statement, which is true. "regardless of which party is in power". We are so complacent with THEM having the power, and NOT US, that we automatically assume that we must submit to the whims of the party with the most members, and we have given them that power forever.

There needs to be change in America. This is one of the major changes that must begin with this election.

Then MAYBE, some of the other issues that WE scream about will be heard.

Obam-ba is out there campaigning for Dingell, an 84 YEAR OLD MAN.

Why? Because he thinks that old man is "good for the country" or just another barely still warm body that can cast a vote to feed HIS agenda?

Do you really think that this president's agenda is what the American people want?

I don't happen to think so, and the polls support me. November will tell how much.
I'm still hopeful, and I still vote.

Oh, an optimist! Let me say I hope you're right.

We can start by getting rid of the antique senators who are no longer relevant, and have less to lose in the reality of their lives relative to legislation they engage in that affects every American. It isn't a "party" that has power.

Yes, along with new senators and representatives who never have been relevant.

Correct, and yet we have partisans on both sides who seem to think that "their" party has the answers and the other party is wrong.

But that would require the average voter to pay attention to what is really going on in Washington.

What are the odds of that?

There are too many Congress people that have been lifers. That needs to change, period.

Absolutely.

The problem is with your statement, which is true. "regardless of which party is in power". We are so complacent with THEM having the power, and NOT US, that we automatically assume that we must submit to the whims of the party with the most members, and we have given them that power forever.

Well said. It doesn't matter which party is in power, what matters is that the voters take power into their own hands.

My cynicism says that won't happen, that voters will continue to base their votes on party loyalty and TV ads.

I hope I'm wrong, but my cynicism turns out to be right most of the time.

Maybe. I'm betting against it, but maybe.

For the latter reason, of course.

Do you really think that this president's agenda is what the American people want?

What the American people want are good jobs and security. Even the issues of the war, health care, deficit spending, and illegal immigration take a backseat to that one.

I don't happen to think so, and the polls support me. November will tell how much.
I'm still hopeful, and I still vote.

Good for you. Maybe you can prove me wrong, vote in new blood, and actually get this nation back on course.

Are you taking bets?

Its so cute when you talk about balancing the budget...BO never at any time in his life desired to balance the budget and never said he would, yet you voted for him. How does that make you feel?

No. 2...BO at no time ever said he would stop illegal immigration...quite the contrary...yet you voted for him. How does that make you feel?

No. 3...at no time ever did BO say he would get out of the ME. He did say he would get out of Iraq, but he is following Bush's plan for withdrawal. And he has expanded our presence elsewhere in the ME. Yet, you voted for him.

How does that make you feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel?

It makes me feel like I voted for the lesser of the two evils. Do you seriously think that McCain would have supported any of the above?

Further, did you vote for Bush, who didn't stop illegal immigration, didn't balance the budget, and got us into the mess in the ME in the first place?

Or did you think that Gore or Kerry were the lesser of the evils the last two times?

Well THC...good points. I did vote for the progressive Bush both times because I did not want the socialism that Gore and Kerry would immediately impose.

And, I voted for little Johnny McCant because I did not want Marxism.

So, the question is...would you rather have a progressive or a Marxist for president? You chose Marxism and I chose the progressive. Very sad choices, but I chose intelligently and you did not.

But all is going to work out thanks to folks like you who got fooled by the Skinny Socialist and the lib MSM. You see, Americans do not like socialism and the back lash is going to land hard on Nov 2nd. God willing.

Other than health care reform, can you cite something that McCain/Bush would have done differently from Obama?

You keep misusing political terms.

Oh come now THC...if you think McCain would have done the same things as BO, you are most confused and uninformed.

Lets see, where do we start...McCain and Bush likely do not do any of these things...
  • gays out in the open in the military
  • huge stimulus to enrich his supporters
  • placing Marxists and Commies in his administration...see all the Czars
  • bowing to tyrants
  • sucking up to Muslim nations
  • showing up on numerous TV shows
  • throwing a baseball like a girl at a baseball game
  • making a fool of himself with a Marxist professor and a cop
  • reducing our military strength
  • consistently dumping on America and Americans
  • failing to meet most of his campaign promises...no criticism from the MSM
  • promoting Marxist redistribution of wealth every day all day
  • Nominating two worthless weak minded Commies to the Supreme Court
  • Promoting American weakness around the world.
  • Insulting the Brits by returning the bust of Churchill
  • Insulting the Israeli PM
  • Insulting
  • Taking loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg Vacations.
  • A first lady who takes an outlandish vacation without BO
  • Golfing every weekend.
  • Omits ‘Creator’ When Speaking of ‘Inalienable Rights’
  • Using a teleprompter for EVERY speech
  • Fail to respond to gulf oil spill
  • Surround himself with commies, marxists, socialists.
  • Reverse restrictions on stem cell research
  • Promote they AGW hoax
  • Close Guantanamo Bay
  • Try 9/11 terrorists in NYC
  • Pick a dumb ass for VP and Sec of State

I could go on for hours, but just maybe you get the point...but I doubt it.

And, I know you do not know that BO is a Marxist. Just another example of your mental confusion.

  • Opposed by Obama, supported by Congress.
[*]huge stimulus to enrich his supporters

    TARP

[*]placing Marxists and Commies in his administration...see all the Czars

    More misused political terms.

    [*]bowing to tyrants

kissing tyrants and holding hands with them.

    [*]sucking up to Muslim nations

by continuing the war in Afganistan?

[*]showing up on numerous TV shows

What pol would turn down a chance for publicity?

[*]throwing a baseball like a girl at a baseball game

Riiight! Only liberals throw like girls. Have you ever seen a girl's baseball game?

[*]making a fool of himself with a Marxist professor and a cop

    more misused political terms.

    [*]reducing our military strength

by continuing the wars and increasing military spending.

[*]consistently dumping on America and Americans

    RW talking point.

[*]failing to meet most of his campaign promises...no criticism from the MSM

So, you think McCain would have filled his campaign promises?

[*]promoting Marxist redistribution of wealth every day all day

If one comment relating to a graduated income tax makes him a Marxist, then every modern president has been a Marxist.

[*]Nominating two worthless weak minded Commies to the Supreme Court

More misuse of political terms. What nominee do you think was a "Commie"?
[*]Promoting American weakness around the world.

    You mentioned that already

[*]Insulting the Brits by returning the bust of Churchill
    [*]Insulting the Israeli PM
    [*]Insulting
    [*]Taking loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg Vacations.
[*]A first lady who takes an outlandish vacation without BO
    [*]Golfing every weekend.
[*]Omits ‘Creator’ When Speaking of ‘Inalienable Rights’
[*]Using a teleprompter for EVERY speech
[*]Fail to respond to gulf oil spill

[*]Reverse restrictions on stem cell research

I could go on for hours, but just maybe you get the point...but I doubt it.

I think you already did. I've got answers for all of the rest, but got tired of it.

Why all the misuse of political terms? Why unfounded charges? Why not just say that Obama is a big government statis... Oh, yes! It's because his predecessor was the same, and he was... was... a mighty Republican!

And, I know you do not know that BO is a Marxist. Just another example of your mental confusion.

That's just funny.

No, this is our new president:
