Well because some people like to cry communism when they want to paint someone as e I think it would be nice to have a debate on communism. I am not sure that there are any true communists on this board so I will play devil's advocate. In the interest of logic and accuracy I think it would be beneficial for me to say up front that communism does not automatically mean statism (in fact some communists wish for a stateless society.) it means in the most basic sense collective ownership. Communism wishes to end what they call "wage slavery" and private property. Now that you know what it is I hope to see some logical arguments.

My B-I-L and his wife visited China the other year and he brought me back one knowing I would appreciate the historical significance if not the Chinese it's written in. There are no "new" copies there, this one was a "vintage" one formerly owned by someone in the youth leadership way back when.

No Communist societies exist, can't really, just the predictable variety of socialist ones. I don't think ole Karl ever expected one to so evolve, kind of a utopian sort of vision. Governments are all about power so one devoid f it is somethign of an oxymoron.

that would be a kinda cool thing to have around regardless...I love collecting things like that, like my Russian military flask, or my Nixon integral pin

Yeah, it was actually very thoughtful, I loved it. Neat having some actual historical artifacts. Clever of the Chinese to apply a little capitalism to these things.

Now all I need is an autographed copy of the Commie Manifesto ! Not so many of those available I guess. : )

Communism is dead. The word still exists as a political buzzword to be used when no real arguments exist, but real communism is dead, gone, and needs to be forgotten. The idea that everyone will work for the common good applies to a beehive or an ant colony. It doesn't work in human society, and so has been discarded as an economic/social model.

You are dreaming as usual.

You may think communism is dead and it certainly is a political structure that never works and only enslaves all the people except a few elites, which is why the elites like it. Many left wing elites want and are actively promoting communism.

And, many in the D party, Administration, academia, unions, hollywood, MSM, etc...are communists.

The actual meaning of the word:

com·mu·nism
   /ˈkɒmyəˌnɪzəm/ Show Spelled[kom-yuh-niz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1.
a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2.
( often initial capital letter ) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

But thanks for illustrating what I said about Communism being used as a political buzzword.

It lives on in academia.

Communism isnt dead simply because true communism never existed. The closest thing we have seen to true communism was anarcho-syndicalism in spain. Even communists dont hold the delusion that people will work to help the greater good of the community most communist think people should be paid based on hours of production.

1) That is a false statement, you are working of a faulty understanding of what the communist theory states. That would be a better statement if you were to attribute it to corpratism.

2) We can argue who is or isn't communist 'til we get blue in the face but we would still be miles away from addressing the topic at hand. Why is communism bad?

one could also look at , Carol ( trying to recall this late name..) Gould?
She talked about a Communist system that was worker owned...but at same time...capitalist in nature...the best examples would be if you know any ESAP company's, or worker owned companies. It gives workers the ownership of production, but does not in any way mean equal pay...but all workers have to agree that some groups should be paid more...and make those decisions..and you need to sell product at cost that people will pay to keep company going...
