Democrats have not only just recently stepped up their fight to prevent names of illegitimate voters from being removed from voting rolls, but they have been fighting like hell for years to keep voting rolls bloated.  The importance for that was uncovered in 2020 when initial calculations showed that 120% of registered voters voted in the 2020 election, although that figure was later revised to reflect that only 95% of registered voters voted.

Following the 2020 election, voting rolls were purged of hundreds of thousands of names, which indicates that the number of legitimate registered voters voting in 2020 was likely much lower, probably at least as low as 70%, which is the highest voter turnout for a presidential election in the hundred years prior to 2020.
