They will ignore it for the same reason why miners ignored Hillary and believed trump. Then lost their jobs when trump was president even though he promised those workers he would make sure they didn't lose their jobs. He helped out the owners of those monies but he left the miners without a job and without any training for a new one. Hillary told them the truth and said she would get them training for new jobs.
That reason is they are lazy. The miners were too lazy to do the work to learn and have a new career. They chose what they thought was the easy way out. In the end, they were left unemployed with no hope for training for a new career.
It doesn't take much to make changes. Just look at the states of Hawaii and Washington. Both states have made changes. Hawaii is completely off coal. Washington is nearly off coal. Their last coal fire plant will be closed in 2025. Most, if not all, of the coal mines in Washington have been shutdown. Both states are using renewable energy along with cleaner natural gas. Washington uses, water, wind, solar, natural gas and a small nuclear facility for the ranchers in the southeast corner of the state. The natural gas in Washington is used to heat homes and cooking etc.
The cars on the roads in Washington, at least on the west side of the state, are at least 30%, if not more, either hybrid, EV or combination EV/hybrid. The air in both states is much cleaner. So much in Washington that they stopped smogging vehicles in 2019.
Washington generates more electricity than they use so they sell some of their excess to neighboring states. Getting off fossil fuels for electricity didn't harm either state at all. In fact, Washington is much better off now than they were before the conversion. They have either the lowest or second lowest electric rates in the nation. They don't have blackouts. The only reason they lose power is from a storm that knocks down power lines.
It's not that hard to change. It can be done.
The problem is that the wrong people will profit from changing. The fossil fuel industry will lose money.
