He surveys the US, but can he explain why other western countries do not have the number of mass shootings that the US has? There are at least two possible explanations, either accessibility to these guns, or unevenly distributed income and poor social mobility, that is economic drivers of crime. The republicans refuse to consider any of these. So there is no way to deal with the mass shooting problem. You are not allowed either to remove the murder weapon, or to attack this from the side of possible motives. The people who commit mass shootings care nothing for punishments. What they are doing is a form of vengeful suicide. They feel the need to drag many with them.
