Well, it was a while before people with excess melanin and no penis or property were considered to have been created equal, but still, it was radical thought for the time.

Guess you missed the part where he said in the times they lived. That was a time of slavery, indentured servants (same as slavery), criminal work forces, and where land owners had special rights. Kind of like what the Repugnant Party would like to take us back to.
