http://thetandd.com/animal-rights-g...cle_017a720a-56ce-11e1-afc4-001871e3ce6c.htmlthey were out for a pigeon hunt and PETA wannabes were trying to, well I have no idea really as pigeons are huntable.

I think Tallahassee (Woddy Harrelson's character in "Zombieland") said it best "thank God for rednecks !". we're talking pigeons here, mother of all pest birds. I always love seeing stories of falcons creating new habitat in downtoen urban areas ridding them of pigeons. we have a growing population jhere in Richmond and the maintenance people are delighted.

A remote-controlled aircraft owned by an animal rights group was reportedly shot down near Broxton Bridge Plantation Sunday.
Steve Hindi, president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video what he called a live pigeon shoot on Sunday when law enforcement officers and an attorney claiming to represent the privately-owned plantation near Ehrhardt tried to stop the aircraft from flying.
"It didn't work; what SHARK was doing was perfectly legal," Hindi said in a news release. "Once they knew nothing was going to stop us, the shooting stopped and the cars lined up to leave."
He said the animal rights group decided to send the drone up anyway.
"Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."
He claimed the shooters were "in tree cover" and "fled the scene on small motorized vehicles."

So, they sent up a toy helicopter to video people hunting pigeons in order to have something to show to anti hunters?

What did they think would happen?

what did they expect to happen may be the better question. a toy helicopter is a pretty small investment if you think anyone objects to fewer pigeons. imagine the donations that are rolling in now....

you can tell when PETA is running short on cash in the same way. Actually I can see by my mailbox that the Sierra Club does the same.

They aren't an animal rights, anti hunting group, are they?

by the same I mean "do" something when they need money. they claim to be a conservation group but are really largely a lobbying one. oddly enough the hunting oriented Ducks Unlimited has done more actual conservation than all other groups combined. they are the world leader.

Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, they are quite political and do raise money to lobby.
