Those low on the totem pole free-market low-tax seeking Republicans who want to escape what they perceive to be a complete conversion to Socialism in the U.S. have many choices of countries with low income tax (Somolia, Sundan, Ukraine, Bulgaria) or no income tax at all like Saudi Arabia. In addition, several of these countries have free-market economies and the equivalent of states rights government where each state (or province) rules itself. Better known as the warlord type government.

The better educated high on the totem pole corporate Republicans know that capitalism is alive and well in the U.S. and their multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses are safe, albeit taxed slightly more next year, but still not as much as in some previous years.

They also know that America in no way resembles the Socialism of the Eurpean Union. Americans have a shorterr life span than European Union countries, they work longer hours, have shorter vacation time, less job security and smaller retirement pensions than those socialistic Europeans.

Life doesn't guarantee you a living.

I agree. Life is by nature hard. But it can be improved greatly by groups of people cooperating and caring and working together for ways to improve conditions for the group.

If our progressive tax system were repealed, and a consumer based type of taxation implemented... I would be slightly more apt to support "caring and working together", but as it stands, these economic responsibilities are placed on fewer and fewer citizens....and with the economic outlook so gloomy, I suspect even less will be financially capable of being "thy brothers keeper"

You take away the motivation when services (as health care - not a right) is just handed out.

Why would people work to get somthing they can just have for free.

It's like the folks that are still getting un-employment. After 2 yrs. Why would they go back to work?

There's nothing wrong with a progressive tax system. It still allows for huge accumulation of wealth. The tax burden is not being placed on fewer and fewer citizens. It is being well distributed over the entire population. And it is being lowered for working middle class citizens by the Obama administration.

Most people who complain about being their brother's keeper are more dependent on society and the government than anyone else. Their parents are on Social Security and Medicare, their children attend public schools, they have drawn military or unemployment benefits, they drive on public roads, drink water inspected by government health departments, eat food inspected by the government, their work environment is protected by government regulations and the list goes on and on.

We all want to keep the privacy of our homes and the bulk of the fruits of our labor for ourselves. And our government allows us to do that. But we all must contribute toward keeping the larger community outside our homes safe as well.

I paid right at $24,000.00, via four checks directly to the IRS last year....this year, my first quarterly check will be slightly less than last years because the economy has affected my business, but it is still $4200.00. Now, would a larger portion of that money be better served by me spending it in our economy, or would merely handing it all over to a myriad of expensive bureaucracies to ineptly manage serve society better?

Please understand the difference between "collective" infrastructure that benefits the whole of society, and equal, unalienable rights being manipulated to favor or harm individuals.

Oh that is just sick, its criminal how much you had to pay. And a portion of that money will go to give ssi checks and food stamps to people like my brother who refuses to work becaus why should he if he can get free money from the government.

What I don't get is this!
Progressives are not proud of America.
They don't respect our founding fathers and their principles
They don't beleive in defending our nation against our enemies.

Why in the hell do they stay here?
