whats next ? coin-op abortion vacuum machines in restrooms ?

they can call them Saucy Tarts and every kid will want them every day

The Washington Post reports that, under President Obama and his Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the Food and Drug Administration is considering letting “anyone of any age buy the controversial morning-after pill Plan B directly off drugstore and supermarket shelves without a prescription.” The Post writes,

“The Food and Drug Administration has until Wednesday to respond to a request from the drug’s manufacturer to make the pill as easy to get as toilet paper and toothpaste....

“Opponents, however, say such a decision would expose girls and women to potential risks from taking high doses of a potent hormone, interfere with parents’ ability to monitor their children and make it easier for men to prey on vulnerable minors….

“[The] pill would move out from behind pharmacists’ counters, eliminating the requirement that women produce a prescription or prove that they are at least 17 years old to get it without a doctor’s order. Instead, Plan B would be available on store shelves, along with condoms, contraceptive sponges and spermicides.

“‘Hopefully, it will be right on the shelves between the condoms and the pregnancy tests,’ said Kirsten Moore of the Reproductive Health Technologies Project, a Washington-based advocacy group….

no, this is not the Onion.

It seems like an onion piece.

The drug is dangerous and has some serious side effects. It clearly needs to be as regulated as much as many other drugs, that or we remove the regulation on all of them.

Furthermore, children should not be ingesting these things without their guardians supervision or for that matter a doctors.

I would think that any company that sold these to children without their guardians permission would open itself up to some pretty huge lawsuits.

Of course this could just be negotiation. The drug company asks for the drug to be OTC and then it "settles" for it to be less restricted than the alternative.

could be but the manufacturer should understand liability. then again the FDA should know when to say 'hell no' as opposed to take it under consideration.

scary no matter what.

I don't think it is anymore dangerous than Cialis. . .and you can order that on the web anyday of the week!

But then again. . .Cialis doesn't help reduce the birthrate, or the number of unwanted pregnancy, or the number of abortions. . .it actually INCREASES it!

So. . .it's probably "evil!" right?

after getting burned once again for braindead thinking...

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday overruled federal drug regulators to block wider access to the controversial contraceptive known as Plan B.

In a decision critics said could only be explained by politics, Sebelius ruled that women younger than 17 will still need a prescription to get Plan B, which is sometimes called the morning-after pill.

OOOOOHHHH! I guess that must disappoint you, since it takes away your reason to bash the Obama government AGAIN!

I'm sure you'll find some "fake" news very soon!:D:D:D

no need for fake news, the real stuff is impossible to make up and regular as rain. makes Biden look possessively dignified in comparison. its Amateur Hour in the West wing + Oval Office. three plus years in and its as bad as it ever was. shoot he even got cowed into putting off Hawaii by a mere campaign email from Mitt. meanwhile the world gets another laugh.

I'll be glad once the grownups are back.

I am totally shocked! That woman loves abortion more than any other female I know of in politics. She was a huge supporter of Tiller the baby killer and she had a 100 percent perfect record with planned parenthood on her pro-abortion stance. I am utterly shocked with what she did. Someone is going to have her head for this ... Literally!

the boss hates looking foolish. it doesn't stop him from doing so constantly but he hates it. reminds me of..

I guess we'll all have to see. . .! ;):)

Apparently she likes having the FDA funded more than she likes the morning after pill.

It seems to be a battle of FDA "scientists" who have been pressured to approve the dangerous drug versus KS who is being pressured by Republicans not to let the approval go forward.

She is right in this case since the drug is dangerous:

Here are some quotes about the drug from the first site I found:

The had been warned of the drug’s potential hazards as far back as 1995but the clinton administration pushed to get RU-486 approved before the 2000 election despite the lack of reliable data demonstrating its safety. Congress may have been ok with it, but many doctors were not. An autopsy of a ru-486 user found that she died of septic shock caused by endomyometritis, an inflammation of the uterus, “due to therapeutic, drug-induced abortion.”

Ru-486 has received 676 reports of problems with the drug, including 17 ectopic pregnancies, 72 cases of blood loss so severe that they required transfusions and 7 cases of serious infections.”

Serious dangers can come about if a pregnant woman takes the first pill but does not take the second, or if she or her clinic miscalculate dates, since the dangers of the regimen substantially increase after 49 days from conception. RU-486 may also mask symptoms of ectopic pregnancy or lead to cardiac problems, including a myocardial infarction in a 21-year-old woman three days after an abortion.

The FDA approved of the drug solely on the basis of uncontrolled clinical trials, which is contrary to the agency’s standard requirement of two randomized, blinded and controlled tests for new drug applications.

The safety of the drug has been further undermined since it’s approval. The FDA has stopped enforcing the 49-day limit by doing nothing about medical providers who prescribe RU-486 beyond that point.

( side effects and risks):

Death
Infection
myocardial infarction
serious bacterial infection
bleeding
ectopic pregnancies that have ruptured

Since the side effects from the drug are largely due to not taking it correctly it does make sense that users, especially irresponsible users (like 16 year old girls who got pregnant despite ample education about how not to) would have to see a doctor first. And of course it goes without saying that the drug is hardly safe for the living human individual that dies every time it is used correctly.

I am not sure why the people who fight so hard for abortions need to hide the dangers of abortions or the drugs like the morning after pill, but all the really pro aborion people I know insist there is no danger in abortions or that pill. I am glad she did what she did too, and I agree she was right, its just so rare that she is right and on this topic, I am still floored!

KS was right ? no, KS got a phone call after this story hit. she got on the phone BEFORE going to the petrologist to see if that new rectum would kill her or not.

actually a better outcome than just saying no.

I see so if they based on science approve, you think all funding should be cut...so therefor they they should just do what you want to save funding and ignore what the science says? And you wounder why Science and Republicans don't mix

Agree, but it's not like other OTC things that are available to children aren't dangerous..
