Obama Unveils Loan Guarantees for Nuclear Plant

WASHINGTON—Touting nuclear energy as a critical component of the effort to confront climate change and meet the U.S.'s energy needs, President Barack Obama announced Tuesday roughly $8 billion in government-loan guarantees for Southern Co. to break ground on a new nuclear-power plant in Georgia.

I think it's about time we started building nuclear power plants again, don't you?

Drill baby Drill and build a few new nuclear plants too!

Yes, let's, and while we're at it, why not put some solar panels on roofs, and continue to build more fuel efficient cars. Let's not forget research into biofuels, and the holy grail of energy independence, cold fusion.

In other words, let's have a comprehensive effort to become energy independent.

Sounds good to me.

I am kind of worried now though, listening to Rush ( I know I know)

he made a statement that scared me. He does not think obama will really build the plants but its more a trap to get the republicans to not fight cap and trade. Once cap and trade is passed he will let the left in congress bully him into a retraction... no plants but we got cap and trade.

It does worry me, I dont trust anything obama says, and this does seem too good to be true.

I don't trust anything Rush says, either. I suppose we'll know pretty soon if he is right this time.

If Obama were to put on a blue suit with a big S on it and fly to the Mid East to bring immediate peace and prosperity to the region, Rush would say that the S stands for socialism and Obama is just grandstanding.

Is it too much to believe that the government will do the right thing, rather than the partisan thing, for once? Maybe so, maybe not. We should know pretty soon.

Oh I trust Rush, I said (I know I know) because I know many here do not. Rush gave an opinion. Its hard to ignore. I know how much obama wants cap and trade and now with the global warming problems it wont be easy, just like health care was not easy like he thought. So no I would not put it past him to lie and trick to get it.

Yes I think it is too much to ask anyone to trust the government at this point. Sorry but I really think that is too much to ask, they have done nothing to deserve that trust.

this conceals why there have been none built.
over regulation.
why would they need the government's 30 BILLION ?

get real with regs and they'll spring up everywhere.

His suit has a big "O" on it...

It will take YEARS before there is any movement on this, the "environmental impact studies" alone will take a decade or more... This is just another gimmick that was tested on focus groups and found to be politically popular.

Think about it for a minute... If Obama says he's suddenly for Nuclear power (after putting the kibosh on Yucca Mountain) and he's pushing for new plants, there is no negative, no downside, just positives. Obama knows the Environazi's will team up with the NIMBY crowd wherever the plants are proposed and he's in control of the EPA... So he gets to publicly say that he's in favor of building new nuclear plants but behind the scenes he can make sure they never get built, while having multiple scapegoats to blame for the failure.

Well, my cynicism tells me that you and Pandora may just be right.

Maybe not.

We'll know pretty soon, anyway.

I can hope, can't I? Hope for change? Maybe even hope that the US is still governable.

Sounds good to me.

of course he does, Rush will always think everything Obama does is evil..he could help a old lady across the street and the hot air machine would attack him for it.

Well, Obama didn't do much for his grandmother, or his aunt, and he sure hasn't helped his family in Kenya in spite of the millions he has garnered. He did visit his half brother in China though.
