good for France, we ought to look into this

Its a shame this has to be encoded into law but with the lure of welfare so great moochers the world over find it too easy to milk generous nations.

Foreigners seeking French nationality face tougher requirements as of January 1, when new rules drawn up by Interior Minister Claude Guéant come into force.

Candidates will be tested on French culture and history, and will have to prove their French language skills are equivalent to those of a 15-year-old mother tongue speaker. They will also be required to sign a new charter establishing their rights and responsibilities.

“Becoming French is not a mere administrative step. It is a decision that requires a lot of thought”, reads the charter, drafted by France’s High Council for Integration (HCI). In a more obscure passage, the charter suggests that by taking on French citizenship, “applicants will no longer be able to claim allegiance to another country while on French soil”, although dual nationality will still be allowed.

Rather than making legal immigration more stringent, we should look into eliminating the welfare state and moving to an open immigration policy.

I do not understand the reference. Also, open immigration should not be confused with open boarders. The former places no numerical limits on legal immigration but all immigrants must still go through the process of being screened etc. The latter just lets anyone come or go as they please without restrictions.

Just look at Mexicos immigration policy.

HARSH YOU SAY??

1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, and all government business will be conducted in our language.

2. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote, no matter how long they are here.

3. Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

4. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, nor any other government assistance programs.

5. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

6. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are not allowed to own waterfront property. That property is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

7. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign flag, no political organizing, no "bad-mouthing" our president or his policies. If you do you will be sent home.

8. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail.

Harsh, you say ?...

The above laws happen to be the immigration laws of MEXICO

Britain's Conservative government has implemented similar immigration policies such as a Britishness test to promote cultural integration and new citizens are required to be quite familiar with GCSE-level British history because the majority of voters want controlled immigration. But passing a French language test would be easy for those from former French colonies (i.e. Algeria, Tunisia) where French is still spoken as a primary language and personally I could never figure out French verbs and mastering it as a second language is an impossible task.

Just look at Mexicos immigration policy.

At the very least--all countries should reciprocate the same laws imposed by the others.

European countries are making the same mistake by importing cheap labor--that the USA made when they began importing slaves way back when. It won't end well.

Blame the Democrats why illegals are in America. Just like Eric Holder wouldnt allow Arizona illegal immigration laws. Thats why we need the Tea Party to vote out more democrats,,Over 700 Democrats lost their jobs back in 2010 from Federal,,The States and Local governments because of the Tea Party people. I hope this election they get the job done. Can you imagine America with no democrats?

Well Republicans are for..Doing it the right way. If you want to become an American citizen you gotta go though a process.

Bush didn't do anything about securing the borders, even after 911. That was the perfect time to shut the borders down.

If The Federal government cant enforce the laws then States have to do it. Just like cops in Arizona if they think youre an Illegal they can arrest you for being illegaly in State of Arizona.
